Army recruitment

Recommended Posts

I have way too much time on my hands and need something else to get my hands dirty with. So today I have picked out 6 different job role's. Has anybody got any experience's regarding joining as a recruit? It's abit extra cash along with other benefits work a minimum of 27 days throughout the year and good health care with some roll's :)

Yeah I can see the money will be shit but did you come out with anything positive, how were you treated like wank? 30 days is hardly over the top would look good on a cv in some ways...

i came out with a few things my job was a gunner/and to protect civvy ships in dangerous transits and also onboard warships to operate radar etc. you just get treated like a dick off your seniors and officers especially stiched up for shit jobs constantly its a poor effort at life mate and it wouldnt look good they tell you that but in reality how is being a naval gunner any good for a job in civvy st

That's exactly why I won't be choosing a naval gunner lol I have welding qualifications, wouldn't mind learning to drive heavy goods etc it's quite expensive doing those sort of things outside of the army I can't see every role been the same treated wise? The clocks ticking for me I need to get my ass into gear lol

Join one of the Corps, either RE ( Royal Engineers) or REME ( Royal Electrical,Mechanical Engineers) and there are plenty of roles, it's either for you or not, visit your local rec office and discuss your options

if you have your welding then why dont you become a naval diver ? when you have the diver and welding qualification civvy st could look alot brighter

gunner wasnt my first choice as usual with the carreers office they lie to you saying youll have to wait such and such amount of time so that they can pick a role for you depending on what they are short of it happened to me and alot of the boys and i know an ex recruitment officer well and he said that is what they do

Royal marines!!! Currently in my application process now, I know a few ex marines and everyone of them said its the one thing in their life they would never change, obviously its a lot harder work to get into and you have to serve as a general duty marine for two years until you can chose a specialisation but its one of the best forces in the world

Also just reading the comments you can be a diver in the engineers and you get paid 400 odd a month extra the diver course is nails in the army and a lot off people fail it also with driveing some of the driving quals don't transfair to civvy street and employers arnt very keen on taking on army qualified drivers as they dont get a lot of experience my friend just left and had to do a lot of courses to secure a driving job said it was a ryt pain

I've done the commando challenge 17k a few years now and I'm not far off on maxing most of the entry level requirements, always wanted to join and living next to rmb chivenor and rmb instow see the marines training since I was a kid plus my mums ex was a wo2 in the marines and the stories he had were amazing

Currently in the process of joining the RAF as a commissioned officer (once I finish getting rid of a tattoo). Out of the three services RAF definitely treat you better. Don't over look the less popular trades as they can sometimes be better and have just as good if not better promotion opportunities. It's not all about the glory roles.

I work at the defence school of transport in the quarter masters department so I get to speak with recruits of all trades, corps and services etc etc and work closely with serving military personnel. Reme and re definitely have better promotional and civvy street prospects.

lol @ civvy street that term always makes me laugh.

i know someone whos joined the army done her basic training and has been posted in cyprus for two years lol

shes going to be doing her training to become a PT and loves it. but then i know a lad who left the army saying the pay was wank, the job was wank, everything was wank.

so i guess you gotta think very hard about your overall plan where you want to go and what you want to do.

P.S - the lad was in the para's and he cannot get a job in 'civvy street' for love nor money.

It's just a part time spare thing but learn as I go it would be nice to do welding I just need to speak to somebody about direction and do something that will benefit me on the outside world afterwards it's not as though I want millions just enough to pay the bills!

if you want to do welding best option would be reme welder/fab it's a boring job stuck in a work shop..if you already hav welding qualifications do sumthing diffrent that intrests you and get as much out of the army as possible re plant op or re fitter is quite good for civvy qualifications
