Installing lightened flywheel

Recommended Posts

Just bought a lightened cusco flywheel and getting round to installing it soon. Is it a cause of just bolting on and alls good. Or does the engine have to be in a certain position, top dead centre etc? Been told is does but don't see the difference it would make

Engine doesn't need to be in any particular position.... as your not altering timing....

Just make sure you use NEW flywheel bolts and torque them to the correct settings. you DO NOT want that coming loose believe me!

Are the stock bolts stretched under torque?

I always thought it was only the headbolts that were perishable items?

Only ask as I'll be fitting a lightened flywheel myself soon and as you mentioned it's the last thing you want to be out of balance or incorrectly fitted/fastened

Oh don't get me wrong I can see why you wouldn't want to get it wrong.

But just never heard of using new bolts until you stuck it in capitals.

Your at the sharp end of things their with racetech, do they recommend new flywheel bolts or have they had flywheel issues?

Like you say for the sake of 3quid, wouldn't be taking a chance if folk have had issues
