Top mounted Oil Cooler?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, thinking of fitting an oil cooler later on to my GT.

Using the existing Top mount Intercooler fittings, has anyone fitted an oil cooler above the rocker?

Just an idea, as thinking of going Front Facing turbo setup, along with the FMIC wont be much room for an oil cooler.

is it not better to keep your oil cooler as low as possible so the flow is not fighting with gravity? I was under the impression the higher it is mounted the more chance of weak oil pressure due to gravity. please correct me if im wrong

Some heat regardless of how much is rising up from the cat and manifold etc the air flow into the scoop will work but I can't see it been as good, at the front will be zero heat and constant flow oil coolers are more for track use you will be lucky to hit the temperature in order for it to do the job properly if your hitting traffic lights every 5 mins it's up to you man Dan g knows the score haha

Was only thinking it because:-

Shorter run, less strain on oil pump

Direct feed from air scoop

Can use original mounting points from TMIC.

You would put more strain on the pump, as believe it or not, fluid that has to negotiate bends and elevation changes has the greatest pressure loss.

Also there is very little room underneath the OEM TMIC meaning the dirty (hot) air has no where to escape, so wouldn't be as cool as you think.
