Pikey009
Hi all, i'm looking to do my own filter and oil changes on the SR and was wondering what oil people would recommend? A friend has suggested 10w40 semi synth. Thanks Jase
morgey
Thats what they run from factory so cant go wrong with it, Just use a good brand and you can't go wrong. CastrolFuchsMobilEtc etcId have a look on opie oils see if they have any on offer. If you wanted to go fully synth you could get away with 5w30 but on an n/a theres not much need. funny onion
10w40 semi synthetic, i usually get castrol when it's on offer in asda, but you'll find most generic oils are recycled anyways so not much difference between halfords/asda etc. obviously fuchs and the higher brans will have better properties though... you get what you pay for i suppose. if you change it regularly though i wouldn't be too fussed
5T4R7ET N/A
Mobil 2000 10/40. Halfords normally do deals on it

Pikey009
50% off bulbs and over a third off oil. I used to run my forged gt4 on Halfords oil so surely the starlet would be ok?
funny onion
I have a trade card too 😎 Awesome savings on some stuff
Pikey009
Defo the way forward do you ever use Halfords oil then?
daniel_g
Only experience ive had with Halfords oil was their trackday oil, it was too thin and it was the reason my pals civic wasnt enganging vtec, that was mid summer at knockhill though. It will be fine for a N/a starlet
morgey
killed my 1st 4age using wilcos own brand oil, lasted 75 miles lol. Could have just been bad luck or a fault but that put me off cheap oil ever since.
Pikey009
Are you suggesting that the engine in my starlet isn't as thoroughbred as vtec ha ha ;) Hmm that's worrying if it was meant to be a track day oil though and meant for that purpose. Like I said though I was running my 403bhp forged gt4 on Halfords stuff and it was perfect. It did get changed every 3k though
daniel_g
4EFE is almost as good as a B18C.... HahaReckon it'll be fine man We were maybe asking too much of it, the temps were sky high, plus on track etc. Some 4EFEs do tend to use oil though, so just keep an eye on it
