Kinugawa Turbocharger TD04L

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Just wondering is anyone using any of these turbos? Or had personal experience with them? they look pretty good for the money, but also Japanese cartridges are used. And also some come with a BOV.

Decent TD04's are coming up less often these days, and even ive seen sold a couple of shit ones.

no personal experience, but it seems they make a decent turbo based on the subaru forums

kinugawa (and mamba which seems to be an indepdent branch off company based on the forums) appear to be offering some decent prices too

for the most part kinugawa seems one of the better taiwan brands out there. i have a few customers with evo/subaru that are using them without any issue. but there have been many instances where these turbos have failed. mostly the turbine housings which dont have the same casting quality as say mhi or garrett. others have experienced the compressor wheel getting destroyed when running higher than average boost. would never recommend them over a genuine brand..but if your on a budget and willing to chance it..then it seems a decent option.

Well the 2 td04's I have need a rebuild.

The turbo comes with a new genuine Cartridge.

Kinda like the look an she fact has the Bov.

Send them both to a specialist for a refurb with genuine cartridges. Then you've got two original turbos with genuine cartridges. And you'd be better off buying a BOV on its own. The cheap price might look tempting, but its cheap for a reason.

Was thinking about buying the billet wheel cartridge would it be a case of just splitting the turbo and installing it or would turbo need balancing and some work done at a specialists shop??

if you buy the complete chra then there is no need for anything/rebalancing....you just use your existing compressor cover, turbine housing, etc off of the old turbo

however, make sure that the chra you purchase are compatible with the stock housings.....sometimes the billet wheel is bigger and either needs a new compressor housing or machining to the existing housing....it should say in the description for the unit you are buying, ,,double check
