It all goes by what VOSA believe to be the first registration date of the vehicle. If the Date of First Registration listed on your V5 document is before 1st January (I think), 1995, then it doesn't require a CAT, as it's only eligible for the idle emmisions test at MOT. Any date afterwards will mean that the car has to have the higher revs emissions test, and therefore will most likely fail without a cat. I may be wrong with some of the specifics like dates, so feel free to correct me anyone! As far as I know, that is the general gist of what it all means.

I'm just shy of 6ft 1 myself, and my N/A Starlet is fine. GT seems fine when I've sat in it too, although it may be different once I'm driving it.

What is the general feeling with the local tuners when they see this (if you take it to meets)? Are they interested in it, or pass it off as some Jap econobox? It'd be interesting to know what kind of reception these cars get in the US.

Keep looking. Every so often a KP does pop up, although they are few and far between. A GT is usually cheaper to insure than the Glanza, it may be worth looking into those.
