  1. Just fitted a set of new piston rings on my glanza, since I fitted a td04 kit it has been smoking, turns out it was the rings causing it, but now the turbo sounds different, it has a lot more of a swooshing noise as it's coming on and at low boost, it almost sounds like a boost leak. I've checked the pipes about 10 times now and I'm pretty sure it's not a leak, could changing the rings effect the sound of the turbo? Anyone else experienced anything similar? I'm thinking now it will have more compression and it's forcing more flow through the turbo
  2. Not as far as I know, I don't compression test it but after replacing loads of other bits it couldn't have been anything else, runs lovely now more still running in but defo has more of a punch to it. Was a easy enough job to just time consuming
  3. It was piston rings, now been changed running great with no smoke
  4. I've got one message me if your interested
  5. Gonna be fitting new rings at the end of the month, will I need to hone the block while the piston is out?
  6. This is exactly the problem I'm having, will get it compression tested ASAP http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/101510-still-smokes-whenever-off-boost/?fromsearch=1
  7. No oil inside the boost pipes, the turbo didn't fail and had minimal shaft play. After fitting the new turbo core it made no difference at all to the smoking so now sure it's not turbo related, it runs very well but don't see what else could cause now it other than the rings, everything else had been replaced
  8. I was digging through the forum last night, found a post with my same problem, he said it turned out to be piston rings. Shame really as the car runs very well. My oils drain set up is all fine, I'll fit some rings and replace bottom end bearings at the same side to be on the safe side, thanks for the help everyone. I'll update the post once fitted
  9. I'll get a compression tester and have a go, does it matter which way round the water lines go on the turbo? Also I've read about having a restricter on the oil feed to the turbo, can anyone shead any light on this?
  10. I hope so done 30 miles now and it's stil the same, you can smell the oil, the smoke is grey ish but doesn't use a drop of water
  11. Just replaced my turbo, fitted a melett TD04 core at a cost of £170 and still having the same problem! All this time and effort and getting no where, so far replaced PCV valve with a propper breather, new valve seals, new head gasket, new turbo core. Running out of ideas now, so frustrating!

    Non smoking TD04

As above, non smoking td04, if such a thing exists these days
  13. I'll get the turbo replaced and go from there. Thanks for the help
  14. I put it to the test again on my drive home from work, it's only after boosting it, drive off of boost its fine. I've just got rid of the PCV valve and replaced it with a breather but I'm thinking turbo
  15. No I'd doesn't only when the engines warm, usually after a bit of boost
  16. I fitted a Chinese turbo core, to be honest it's pretty good I don't think it's that, valve guides sound like they could be the problem, didn't think of this. Would explain having similar symptoms to stem seals. Can the guides be replaced? I have a PCV valve fitted, it's not blocked but could this still cause it to smoke with a td04?
  17. Right just spent the last week taking the head off my glanza, changed the valve stem oil seals (victor rezinz ones) cars all back together now, fresh headgasket, but its still smoking, its not as bad as it was before, as soon as u give it a little boost, then let of the throttle for a few secs then put your foot back on again u get a puff of smoke out the back. its not as bad as it was before the seals were done but its till smoking, anyone got any suggestions? could piston rings or turbo cause similar symptoms as valve stem seals? im running a gt engine with about 85k miles on it, Td04, jam e
  18. Thought this might be the case, cheers, can anyone else confirm this? Just for piece of mind
  19. Does anyone know which goes on the intake and which for the exhaust? There victor reinz seals 8 are brown and 8 are grey
  20. That was me I reckon, u saw me ages ago in a silver glanza just coming out of tonbridge wells
  21. Cheers for that but there was a propper tutorial to it, I will take the head off, I'd rather do it all properly, lap in the valves, plus I know my head gasket is quite old now, seems silly not to change if it I'm going to do the seals, I'll keep looking for the tutorial I'll post it up here if I find it again
  22. Does anyone have a link to a valve stem oil seal tutorial? I had one printed out that i found a few years ago but can't find it now, I'm gonna take the head off and do it
  23. Just to let u guys know this is still going strong, can't fault it
  24. It was the bolts that hold the flywheel face to the flywheel they were catching the sandwich plate, had to put some spacers in the bottom of the plate now it's all sorted
