Whatever you get - make sure they're white it looks really good on your GT with that turquoise colour. edit - don't fuck around, definately get those ones off TGTT if you can afford them, they come with good tyres too.

The 1st gens with 3SGE/2JZGE engines have turbo potential (if you have the cash for it, it's not going to be cheap by any means).
-
Nah you'll just be sucking (unfiltered) air through it into the engine. Shouldn't be too hard to bung up, just find something that fits and jubilee clip it. If you have cash to splash though the best option is probably a K&N Apollo or BMC CDA filter or even the expensive Pipercross Viper. But to be honest for the money I see no problem with a simple open filter, it does the job, it sounds good, and it's cheap.

Just checked it. Craig another alternative is to get rid of that crap rubber pipe and replace it with a short piece of aluminium pipe (off ebay for about £15 or something) and the correct silicone reducers/joiners to fit the pipe to the TB and air filter. I'm guessing the diameter thing for the filter is around 76mm as it's on the end of that rubber pipe? As for the air sensor and oil breather - I drilled a hole in my alu pipe and put the rubber bung from the airbox in there, and I made a hole in the silicone reducer to stick the oil breather pipe in there. Bad pics but you get th

How big is the K&N you have and what diameter is the bit where the pipe attaches?
-
I have had none of these problems.

Yeah the airbox will be better at lower revs, whilst a good open filter will be better at higher revs. But make sure to get rid of that crap pipe, you can buy short lengths of alu pipe off ebay. It depends what you want really, if you like to thrash it I'd definately suggest an open K&N filter. But if you prefer lower revs then go for the airbox panel filter. Also with an open filter you get a great noise at WOT.
-
How have you got it set up though? K&N filter on the end of the standard black rubber pipe?
-
IMO get rid of the restrictive airbox and get yourself a good custom setup.
-
Valentines is shit. On a better note though, MOT passed, only problem was leaky CV, MOT+fixed CV cost £50 in total.
-
It's Stephen, and yes, you think you are "hardcore". meshed TD04 on 1.2 bar enit? You argue for ages telling me that filters are restrictive and that mesh isn't and then you go and change your mind agreeing with Rick that it is infact restrictive. Make your mind up. But tbh your engine is going to go bang one way or another so I don't really care. Wether your standard internals can't cope with the TD04 or your engine simply leans out because you've got it on standard management, or you get shrapnel in a cylinder from the turbo... do I need to continue?

You are such a cock, "you haven't drove a turbo Starlet so you don't know anything"... you talk such shit sometimes. Fucking lol. It doesn't take much thought to realise that very small dust particles can easily fit through mesh. Aswell as the possibility of the mesh coming loose and being pulled into the compressor blades. Bye bye turbo. Mesh is not "cool". People who mesh their turbos either: -do not give a shit about their turbo or engine -don't have the money for a filter (in which case why are you modding cars if you are too poor to afford the most basic modification?) -don't have the

It's bollocks IMO, just get a K&N on there.
-
Alternatively you could buy a good length of pipe and some bends (off ebay) and make some custom piping, there's plenty of aluminium/stainless steel pipes on ebay aswell as silicone joiners. Then you'd just need a decent core.
-
2nd/3rd gear acceleration is where it's at! On another note, I've heard of some people beating VTR's in lightly modded N/A Starlets, can anyone verify this? Sounds a bit mad a 1.3 beating a 1.6, even if it is by a fraction of an inch...

Where did you wire it into so the light changes with the car lights? Mine is on as soon as you turn the key, the good thing is you can't tell the light it on during the day though so it doesn't bother me, just wondered for in the future if I do it again.
-
It's not hard, yes the engine is revving like fuck but it's not struggling or anything. Although I can't see it working well with the standard airbox, the standard piping is too restrictive IMO.
-
What rev gauge did you get mate? Also if you have any problems fitting it I've wrote a guide, it's in the tech section.
-
Why have 6200 rpm if you aren't going to use it? Although I don't go that high usually, the power seems to drop off before 6k anyway.
-
Try it yourself lol 60+ in 2nd
-
You'd be surprised - forget 70 in 3rd, you can do nearly 70 in 2nd lol.
-
It would be best to work under the assumption that almost everyone who is wanting to get more power out of the 4EFE will have alteast a corolla inlet manifold, uprated airbox panel filter or an "open" cone style filter, and possibly an exhaust system/decat. Not alot of people go past these basic bolt ons with the N/As, I think more people should tbh.
-
I'm still up for it and I'm sure we can get atleast 5 people (we had 10 on the list but I'm sure there will be no more than a few that pull out). I'm going to let Rich buy one first though and let us know the results, money is tight at the moment, so I'm not going to gamble £250 and "hope" that it gives a good increase in performance.
-
That price is going to include delivery aswell isn't it? £250 is a bit more than I wanted to pay tbh.

The funny thing is that these pricks are comparing a 2.0 turbo to a 1.3 turbo. If you want to compare a 2 liter engine then lets compare a 2.0 Toyota engine to the C20LET. According to wikipedia the 3SGTE has up to 260bhp as standard, C20LET's had just over 200.
