  1. There is the benefit of the higher rev limit as rmsnoel says but I found my 4EFE limited at 6200 rpm. It will run on the 4E ecu but not as it really should. The 5E ecu could work, its 50/50, only prob is with the immobiliser. The car starts but won't idle and dies. Joz
  2. C'mon Jaystar, the Red EP has been on holiday in the Costa long enough ;) Joz
  3. Just had WeeJohn mention that early FTE boxes had 6 bolt diffs too. Its best to inspect what diff you have, but the safe bet is 8 bolts as that is the most common ;) If you bought it new from TRD for example it would certainly come with 8 bolt fitment. Joz
  4. Will be sweet to see dude. Joz
  5. Make it a UKSC preview exclusive Dan or gtfo ;) Joz
  6. Your GT gearbox holds a diff with 8 bolts so get the TRD diff with 8 bolts. As long as it is an original GT or Glanza gearbox it will be 8 bolt diff fitment, 6 bolt won't fit. If the box has ever been changed with or without your knowledge get it inspected by someone in the know to make sure. The 6 bolt diff essentially functions the same but fits a 6 bolt diff fitment gearbox such as the n/a starlet gearboxes. Basically the only difference is how many bolts hold the diff into place on the crown wheel inside the gearbox. You can see the number of bolts it is by the number of bolt holes on
  7. The 5EFE injectors are the same size as 4EFE which are 195cc. It is the 5E-FHE injectors which are different, being 225cc. For the record 4EFTE injectors are 295cc. Even though the 5EFE engine can run with the 4EFE ecu, it is not running properly as the 5E is a lower compression ratio (9:4:1 vs 9:6:1) and will have slightly different fuel/timing maps as intended. Joz
  8. The 5E flywheel is the same size @200mm, same as 4EFE. Its the 4EFTE flywheel that is larger @212mm which wont fit the 5E crank bolt pattern. '4E' is too loose a term when you have two very similar yet also slightly different engines. I cross referenced the part numbers which confirm that both 4EFE and 5EFE clutches are the same. The flywheel part numbers are different which reinforces the fact that altho the 4EFE flywheel size is the same @200m, it will not fit the 5E bolt pattern. I ran my 4EFE gearbox no probs with my 5EFE and 5EFHE spec. Short answer Ste: Clutch YES - Flywheel NO - G

    Happy Bday Idrees

Happy Birthday Mr Id Workz! Joz
  10. Rays Lightweight Duranium. Pricey but JDM, lock and look sexual in a choice of anodised colours. Joz
  11. Just want to say thanks very much to Chanelle for sorting me out an awesome deal for an HKS centre section. Communication was great all round and the item arrived within the week as promised. Can't recommend highly enough, a lovely person to deal with. Very happy as this will help my build big time. Cheers Joz
  12. Panhard rods for the starlets are universal (GT and Glanza and N/A) as they all share the same axles. I'd recommend the RSR which I use myself. From what I've read over the years the Whiteline are harder to fit as they have tighter bushes. It may cost a little more but it is a quality piece of jdm kit that does the job perfectly. Davehart who I know is selling one RSR. These are usually imported from Japan and its at a very good price. All depends on what you're willing to spend and what products/brands you want on your EP. Joz
  13. This page and video should explain everything. RSR Panhard Rod I'm on 195/50/15 but will be returning sharpish to 195/45/15. Joz
  14. As stated regular service will resume very shortly. Just need to get the engine fully rebuilt by a reliable secret source. Wee John should have the wiring ready to plug and play too. Will be going with the QUAIFE 4EFE gearbox and a oem lightened flywheel to avoid wasting time and may prove fruitful. TRD Clutch cover and a standard non-exedy clutch disc is on the cards. This gap in time has allowed me to pick up more useful parts for the build (Apexi 52mm boost gauge, Blitz SS Bov, HKS centre section and other sexy starter parts) so it has worked out well. A better condition CT9b appeared
  15. Really nice build mate Lots of attention to detail and looks like a lot more to come. Would like to know what brand ram mani fold and hybrid you're running Keep up the nice work and most of all enjoy the car! Joz
  16. Nice update broski Will be great to see a visual update of that sexy gauge. Im itching to start driving the EP again... All good things come to those who wait I guess Joz
  17. Some pics of the N1 fitted would be great to see Joel Is it the EP91 specific backbox? Can't wait to get mine on Joz
  18. You could have asked me bro lol The 5EFE obx fits the 4EFE and needs some shaving of the flange to fit over the power steering pump. The mani will hang a bit lower as it was designed for the 5E but its perfectly safe and I never caught anything with my EP and it was quite slammed. The decat pipe it comes with does not line up with the starlet exhaust system as its suited for the Paseo so is pretty much unusable unless you want to change the exhaust route which probably isn't worth it. The sensor holes need to be welded shut unless you want to make your existing o2 sensor longer which ther
  19. Revving or misfiring/jumping problems I've experienced are most likely spark plugs, timing, ht leads, distributor or an electrical problem. Try the easy visual checks like a loose/damaged ht (spark plug) lead and it might be time to change the plugs. Its all about a process of elimination. Timing is especially worth checking as is the timing belt or other belts. Alternator/starter motor can also be a culprit as are loose vaccum hoses/earth leads on inlet manifolds. Also check your accelerator cable and surrounding throttle/inlet sensors. Sometimes these problems just crop up out of nowher
  20. Firefox hands down, with sexy persona's Joz
  21. Take into account that brand new Toyota valves are quite expensive new and there are 16 of them. If it is beneficial going with larger valves on the FTE that has to be seen but I can't see why an experienced performance engine builder wouldn't take it on if you really wanted to have it done. I'd have a consultation first to find out more. Good/helpful places do exist. Joz
  22. All the best with the new direction for the n/a bro Have changed the name of the mani for you!! Looking forward to see what can be done. Off the record I'd go for an EP8 chassis if I had the choice again, to be greedy I'd have both Joz
  23. Try searching '5efe' first mate. It has been covered a lot but basically its 98% plug and play. You use your original 4efe throttlebody and tps, original engine wiring, can use 4efe ecu or 5efe ecu prefably if your car will take it. There are also two sensors that need changing over, one is a water sensor and the other I can't recall. I've had the swap done in my car, now going 4EFTE. If you or someone is competent they will have no trouble with this swap. The hardest part is finding a decent 5efe engine that isn't burning oil and won't rape your pocket nowadays. Joz
  24. No worries mate. There are 6 bolt aftermarket diffs for us too but hard to find. I sourced a QUAIFE 6 bolt diff thanks to Rick. Joz
  25. @Joel - The 4EFE gearbox takes a different diff with 6 bolts. The ones on show above are 8 bolt suited for 4EFTE gearboxes. That's if you were thinking of one for your motor. Joz
