The TD04-13T (TD04L) turbo is a very popular turbocharger in the Starlet World! The standard CT9 turbocharger is out of puff at 200bhp where as the TD04 turbo is good for a further 50bhp on the stock engine! They are very easy to get hold of as they were fitted to Subaru Impreza Turbos for over 8 years! Being so popular there are a fair few out there that smoke and that means a rebuild is in order! So have a read through this guide, this very simple DIY process should stop any smoking from your exhaust from turbo seal failure! TD04L Rebuild Kit - Avaliable on eBay Hammer Flat Blade Screwdriver Socket Set WD40 Blowtorch Disassembly Remove all the hoses and clamps, including the vaccum lines to the wastegate and compressor housing. Then remove the clamp that goes around the center of the turbochargers core. Its usually a 10mm nut, once removed the clamp can be completely removed. Remove the 17mm banjo bolts for the coolant lines, be careful not to loose the copper washers! Remove the 2x10mm bolts that secure the oil return pipe to the turbochargers core. There may also be some sealant that may hinder the removal. Now for the hard bit! Due to a nice tight fit, plenty of heat cycles, rust and age. The exhaust housing and the core will be nice and seized up most likely! Use plenty of WD40/PlusGas (Penatrating Fluid) to try and loosen the join. Flat blade screw driver and a hammer, Rubber Mallet or even some additional heat from a blowtorch will all help. Once the exhaust housing is free from the core, the compressor housing then needs removing. You will need some snap ring pliers for this and it can be a little fiddley! IMPORTANT The turbocharger will be balanced perfectly and altering this balance will cause accelerated turbo wear. The exhaust and compressor wheels when removed from the shaft will need to be re-fitted in the exact same rotation as they were to ensure the balance is kept correct. Marking the shaft and wheels on the outsides will allow you to get this right on re-assembly. Use an 8mm socket for the compressor wheel nut and a 12mm socket to hold the turbine end. Please note that certain TD04's compressor wheel nuts are reverse threaded so be careful! Remove the compressor wheel, it should slide off the shaft and put it somewhere safe. Remove and bin the large rubber o-ring around the lip of the compressor side end of the core. Push/Tap the shaft and it should come out complete with the exhaust wheel. Be careful not to bend any of the fins upon removal! Using the snap ring pliers remove the visible snap ring on the compressor side of the core. The clip holds the compressor seal in place. Remove the compressor seal from the core, using multiple flat blade screwdrivers or knifes at opposites will allow you to pry it out. The compressor seal has a metal insert, it may have fallen out when you removed the seal. Remove the bronze seal plate. It pops out but may need a little persuasion. Remove the interior o-ring from the compressor side. Remove the small spacer found beneth the bronze seal plate. Remove the compressor side bearing. Re-Seal & Re-Build Lubricate with some oil the new bearing from your rebuild kit and fit it into the compressor side. Place the new bronze seal plate spacer on top of the new bearing, then install the new bronze seal plate. This should click into place and there is only one proper orientation. Fit the replacement o-ring. On the end of the compressor seal insert there is a piston ring type ring. Remove the old one and replace it with the new item from your rebuild kit. Ensure plenty of lube is used and fitting the new one is actually quite easy. Ensure its fully seated before carrying on! Assemble the compressor seal insert and compressor seal. Fit the snap ring back in place that holds the compressor seal in place. Replace the piston ring on the turbo shaft. Very similar to the one on the end of the compressor seal insert. Fitting the new one can be difficult due to a groove just above the ring. Reassemble the turbine side using plenty of lubricant. Slide the bearing onto the shaft and insert the shaft back into the core until it clicks into place, the shaft should spin nice and free inside the core. Slide the compressor wheel back onto the shaft and ensure the markings you made line up again and then tighten the nut. It will take you a few attempts to get it perfect be patient! Tighten the nut until it stops then give it a quarter of a turn to nip it up. Clean both the oil return faces and reassemble the remaining water lines & clamps. Then you should be good to go! This should stop your smoking turbocharger, there may be excess oil left in the exhaust of your car so take the car for a short drive and it should clear up! Remember this is a simple do it yourself guide, if you can afford to I would seriously consider having it done by a professional and purely because it will be properly rebalanced afterwards to ensure it is 100% perfect!

This is why it gets brought back up, because its swept away and people try and justify what was done evry time it is brought up. Ok so now you've borught it up... and achived what? Has UKSO died.... Has UKSC magically got fixed.... Its not going to change anything is it??? What are you wanting to achieve by bringing all this up??? A lot of People dont know what happened and telling people where to go if they dnt like it is out of order. Admit it was wrong, stealing the content and members is wrong. What does it matter? UKSO is here now and UKSC is erroring.... and is completely unuseable.... How is UKSO at fault for the demise at UKSC.... It Isnt..... People are here because they didnt have a choice. Wrong, There is TGTT, UKSC was working. If Enzo would have fixed UKSC, then they'd have UKSC... You cant blame UKSO for Enzo being lazy and not fixing UKSC... If this keeps going round in bloody circles the topic will be locked... Get over yourself man...

Wouldnt be an issue. His Website provider will be able to access the site with a simple phone call

Feedom of Speech. Yes, hence why this topic hasnt been locked. But its the same record on a different thread. Buckets views have been made quite clear by himself and others when UKSO first started. Why does it need to be discussed again now? Not once have I told Bucket to leave... Any/Every member is welcome here. Espically those who have been in the game along time. Nothing Beats having knowledgeable, experienced people on a forum. However... I have no time for people that want to bring up a subject that doesnt need to be gone over again... It wont change anything at all? Whats the point? In all honesty, the respect I have for all members is very high, that they are as helpful as they can be. But if there unhappy and its not a problem I can solve then Im not going to make them stay... No i dont think people will want to leave as I also feel we are offering somthing here on UKSO that no one else is offering at all. Bucket's feelings have been expressed on many previous theads before, there was no need to bring it back up again really? If I dont like a film im watching at the cinema, I dont sit there making complaints, Ill just simply leave. If I dont like my neighbours or neighbourhood, I will move away if the problems cant be solved... UKSO is here to stay now and we are doing our BEST to make it the best place on the internet for a Starlet Owner. All the stats, Feedback and Support we've had suggest we are doing just that. So this will continue, wether people drag up the past or not... UKSO is not going to change, nor is it going anywhere... Sorry if any of my comments in this thread have offended anyone but Im sure the majority of people respect what we are doing with the club now... End of Story on this one please now. If you have any issues please PM me Im more then happy to help...

UKSC would have still died if those errors werent fixed.... From my experience.. Enzo couldnt be arsed to do the simplist of things. Never mind support UKSC in any way... No Support, Not willing to accept outside help. Would have died... Regardless of UKSO being there or not... It died because he didnt fix the issues... UKSO has nothing to do with UKSC dieing... Very Simple Really. As regards to content, its something we are always going to disagree on by the sounds of it. Fact is more people agree then disagree with how it was done. Again, that wont change anything... End of Story Now...
-
Enzo... Weeks after UKSO started. A Bunch of Errors occured? Which seem to have got more and more frequent apperently? Clearly Enzo cant be arsed to fix those issues, hence why your here now no?? People were still using UKSC mainly even when UKSO first started I think you'll find... Some people started using UKSO when they realised UKSC wasnt going to be fixed... Who's Fault is this?

Stunning Car & Snap! Like the scoop!

UKSO did not Kill UKSC.... UKSC is still there isnt it. Go use it if you want... I havent made anyone use ukso and stop using uksc? I dont know wtf happened to it, as my powers were removed weeks before the errors started... (before you jump on the bandwagon blame game) but clearly if it was that important to him he'd have fixed it or come up with some solution for his members... but as usually couldnt be arsed... We welcome anyone to UKSO. If anyone wants there stuff removing. Old or New members, this isnt a problem either.... I cant be arsed with people that just love to come on here, and moan. As plenty of people said before... If your unhappy, dont visit and dont login... Nothing you are doing or can do is going to change ukso in any way shape or form, so why waste your time... Your Boring Me Now...

Oh Yeh.... Gimme a bit....

I run 5w50 Comma Motorsport (Fully Synth) Forged 4e tho... Not that it should make any difference...
-
This will allow boost creep to happen if your unlucky... Yes... Its not an issue. 0.85bar is perfectly safe...
-
wip the wheel off... If im right... the thin metal shield will be rubbing on the disc... When you speed up you cant really hear it... only really noticeable at slow speeds.. You'll be able to bend it back with your fingers there only thin metal.. Hence how you may have bent it...
-
That solenoid is for the Gizmo chap 100% The Gizmo wont collect boost pressure readings from it tho, there will be a separate vacuum line to the box itself for that. The fuel cut defender will allow you to go past the standard limit of 0.85bar... Going up to 0.85bar is perfectly safe tho... If the car is overboosting at 0.85 with the boost controller duty cycle set to 0 then there will be another reason for it... Boost Creep - Decat & Filter Relocation Kit Cracked Wastegate Adjusted Actuator/Fucked Actuator Hope this helps!
-
U may have bent the brake dust shield and it may be rubbing on the brake disc...
