  1. caret model doesnt have the uprated drivetrain, so if you were to put a turbo engine in there you could never be sure that it wouldnt break pretty damn soon after the conversion was completed. putting that drivetrain onto an ep82/ep91 would be a non-starter, unless you have limitless funds (and lets face it, if you do, you wouldnt be driving a starlet).
  2. the shipping/tax/customs would be more than it would cost to buy the car in japland
  3. you serious? with the right sized socket they should pop right off, mine cme undone with little fuss, although my old man may have undone them originally, i cant quite remember, still, they aren't too difficult as they're internal so dont suffer too much from rust etc. just make sure the socket is the right size and use a nice long socket handle, there's no replacement for good 'ol fashioned leverage.
  4. for sure, just regularly check the shocks for leaks etc, dont wanna be caught out on a nasty corner with shocks that have dumped all their oil/gas.
  5. thats quite bad advice joz, i've known of 3 sets of shocks that have literally gone pop as SOON as aftermarket springs were installed on them, literally they didnt last very long at all before deciding to die, which results in dangerous handling characteristics and generally very poor ride quality, as there was no rebound. you may get lucky and they might last a while, but then again they may pop quickly as has been seen many times. the handling characteristics will not be anywhere near that of aftermarket shocks, because the stock shocks arent designed to have lowering springs on them, and th
  6. ah, i was thinking of the zzt231 celica, the wheels from them are very similar in design, my bad. checked with my own pics (http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/viewthread.php?tid=21454) and that apparently is correct, although i never considered it before as i presumed them the same as previous mr2's or the zzt231 celica. balls, caught out still, the stock wheels on them mr-s' aint the nicest of things...
  7. ventura lower by like 50mm+ (state 40mm) and are around £80. none of them will be too kind on your stock shocks though, which prob wont last too long with just the springs.
  8. new mr2's are 5 stud. old sw20 mr2's are also 5 stud. old old OLD cheesebox sw11 mr2's are 4 stud though.

    @dvice plz

which fcon? and does the fcon come with all the gubbins, including the harness and the pressure sensor? fcon's are good, but in essence they're the same as a jam ecu in the sense that they trim and chop the fuel curve to create adequate fuelling at higher boost. although, unlike the jam they can't touch the ignition timing, which is the funky thing these aftermarket ecu's do. personally i'd keep the jam, but thats just me. the f'con needs to be for your ep91 aswell as having the ep91 chip/rom inside, which again have different maps in them for different sized turbo's.
  10. same here mate, it does just about enough not to be shameful, but it really is borderline. compared to many MANY other hatchbacks they're just not upto the job really, but thats just due to inherent design flaws. they can be made adequate but will never be perfect unfortunately. mine's 'acceptable' even without coilovers, but i've made my choice in wheel/tyre sizes and compounds etc to balance that out, so that it aint a total heap of shit in comparison to other capable hatches.
  11. vmod, virtual mod, photoshop, paintshop, 3yr old with crayons, whatever you wanna call it.... if you need to locate photoshop then i can help you there
  12. bahahaha, handle like nothing else? the starlet has an apalling chassis to begin with. ALL of the suspension mods on the planet will only do so much. yes it'll handle much better (not saying much though ) but it'll always play second fiddle to other naturally good handling hatches, the likes of clio's / 106's etc, which with a fraction of the work can become classes above handling wise. you can improve on things but the chassis/setup as a core system on the starlet is flawed unfortunately.
  13. i was talking about the state of the 'vmods', if you can call em that, you boys need to try harder also, there's very good reasons why people dont go over 15's, which is because its a starlet. anything over 15's spoils the setup of the car, they just aint designed for it. they feel very skittish on 16's and above, it ruins the handling etc and are obviously gonna be alot heavier, but for me its generally the size which i detest as it really does just mess up the feeling of the car.
  14. Yep thats all i was saying mate, just keep an eye on it, as for that price it prob was one of daves as thats what i believe they used to cost. a hybrid will prob see the end of it, but you may get lucky if its in very good condition,
  15. give me a pm mate, we'll talk
  16. ah, more than dave asks. keep an eye on it matey, just a bit of warning if you're planning on going for some decent power
  17. remind me never to go to kent, if thats how newly qualified drivers act. :/
  18. looks good mate, always liked em in white. one thing though, if its one of the exedy clutches from dave, its not 35% uprated. if you're running over stock boost, you may well find it slipping sooner rather than later, as they're just an OEM replacement clutch, stock pressure plate etc (better than a stock item for sure, but certainly not uprated). The true exedy 35% uprated organic clutches will sell for in the region of the price of a paddle clutch, i.e £250+ that roll cage looks billy badass.
  19. shit, cant believe i forgot about that andy. do apoligise, i've already linked a few people to it. how the chuff could i forget about that... ;) spank me later
  20. most certainly is mate but yeah, thats the main reason, they're less popular, in aftermarket and OEM varieties ;)
  21. they dont call me slag for nothing mate.
  22. didnt mean they gripped any good ;) nah but he's got a point, 16" tyres are generally more expensive because they arent as popular as 15's and 17's, so they dont make as many, which means the prices are generally that little bit higher as they still want to make the same profit.
