My Troublesome Turbocharged Terror
WallaceGlanza replied to WallaceGlanza's topic in EP91 Glanza Progress Blogs
Cheers mate, yeah it goes a bit now! I got it mapped up at japerformance in ellon, the guy there is really sound so I would definately recommend him. It was a bit pricey though at £350 then vat on top, but worth it for the grin on my face on the way home! Thanks again too idrees. -
My Troublesome Turbocharged Terror

Update time! Firstly Last week: Since only one of these manifolds hadn't been fitted to my car in the last week I thought I'd better fit the odd one out : The stainless manifold had previously cracked and been rewelded but when a road runner mani became available I thought I'd buy it for peace of mind. It may not look quite as nice but I prefer function over form anyway (in most cases). The only other recent addition to the car are the ngk leads to make sure the ignition system is in top form. Today: Woo Hooo!;) The emanage has finally been mapped, the result.... Oh yeah! 189.8bhp and 167Ftlb of torque @ a peak of 15psi I'm very happy, the car really flys now, to start with it didn't feel great as the boost was coming in really slow as you can see from the second graph. So on my way home I played with my Profec E-01 a bit and now have full boost from below 3000rpm and boy does it go! -
My old kia pride would give an na starlet a run for its money. It was surprisingly quick, the quickest 1.3 non sport model of its year infact.;) 745kg mated to 69bhp woop woop!

The minimum I would recommend to run a decent hybrid turbo to its potential and safely includes the following: Uprated intercooler Increased fuelling (for a hybrid I would personally get at least an SAFC or emanage etc) Probably an uprated airfilter depending on whether the hybrid has a larger intake Obviously a decent exhaust system, decat and uprated manifold would also then increase the performance further. The most important thing is that you can't just bolt on a hybrid turbo and run it at the same boost as the stock one and expect everything to be fine, you'll melt a piston doing that (unless its a crap hybrid). You really need to get the fuelling checked and set up on a roilling road to accomodate the new turbo.

Awesome! I really want to go and see a round of the time attack, the cars are quality. Great photos too mate.

I've changed my mind on the new Impreza

I doubt you'll be seing many WRX version's on the road because they're not being officially sold over here. We'll only be getting the more powerful and aggressive looking Sti next year. -
Well as glanza_ragger says thats is an fcd variant so you don't need to worry about buying one now. Its actually a JAM FCC (Fuell cut controller) by the way However you should now ensure that your fuelling is ok to be running at 1 bar, if you don't have any additional fuelling mods then you should get at least a rising rate fuel pressure regulator (rrfpr) and then a run on a rolling road to check the fuelling.
-
Oh dear! If you don't even know what that box is then maybe you need to do a bit more research or get a professional to fit the FCD for you. However if you do wish to try yourself then its very simple to fit. The box with the lines going into it is a diagram of the ecu plug, the blocks are the pins into the ecu where the wires go in, which you need to splice the fcd wires into. The coloured lines relate to the colours of the wires on an HKS FCD. I would certainly not recommend you buying a cheap 12 quid one off ebay. If you buy one off a site trader then you know for sure that it will actual fit and work on your starlet, there are different types for various vehicles. You should really do some more research into the subject though to be honest mate.

Ditto, thats really nice. Good wheels. Reminds me of Rubix's old glanza.

how can i make my car faster without buying stuff lol

Do some advanced driver training courses/ track day instructed tuition, then you will be able to drive it quicker than you thought possible. -

Yeah wasn't expecting it to be that bad, but the car was sounding horrible when it was still fitted. Cheers! -
Thats nice history of your car mate, I'm interested to see what the engine bay will be holding soon. Looking good mate, especially the bride mmmmm! Keep it up.
-
I would say thats right. I've been running mine on the stock ecu with the walbro for over a year without problems. It just makes a bit more noise than the stock one the way it is.

My Troublesome Turbocharged Terror
WallaceGlanza replied to WallaceGlanza's topic in EP91 Glanza Progress Blogs
Cheers mate, I think I'm going to have to put the remap on hold until I get another mani. With the stock one back on there's a bit more boost creep and unstable boost wouldn't be good when the car's being mapped. One good thing though - I passed my mot! Woop woop! The guys at the place I took it were very sound. One bloke said he got his ass handed to him in his mr2 by a Starlet Turbo at crail a while back! He now has an ek9 now too. I watched them doing the mot and was allowed to change my brake light bulb there and then because it was out, the emissions were no problem either as they just did a non-cat test. However I did notice that I'm leaking gearbox oil from the drive shaft seal. So that another problem that need sorted. I do love my wheels I think they suit it perfectly, thaks again. -

Update *03/08/07* Well my stainless steel manifold which I only fitted 4 months ago had started leaking a couple of weeks ago and yesterday it completely gave up on me. The car started sounding like a proper tractor, so I took it off last night in the hope that I could get the small crack causing the leak welded..... But it couldn't be! So I now have the stock manifold back on and will be buying a new mild steel one when they are available, hopefully it will last a little longer! I also gave the car a service a few weeks ago changing the distributer cap, rotor arm and fitting new NGK Irridiums and the oil and filter too. Today is also mot day, however I just got sent away from the testing centre because the inspector was there and the mechanic told me to leave or I'd fail on the no. plate, therefore i'm heading back there at 1 when the inspector has gone. Also there isn't going to be a problem with my car having the decat fitted which I'm very happy about. I was going to book the car in to get the emanage fitted and mapped once the car's through the mot, however with the stock mani now back on I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to wait to get a new manifold, but at I don't think it would be good getting it mapped with the standard mani fitted. Anyone any suggestions? -
Crack around exhaust mounting bracket
WallaceGlanza replied to turbo newbie's topic in Intake, Turbo & Exhaust
On the head itself or not? Its quite common for the head to crack, mine had a crack when i bought it and enzo's old v did the same. Its not cheap to replace the head but its the only option if thats the problem, welding it won't fix it properly. -
Its nothing to worry about mate, my pump's the same. You just have to bend the fuel line a bit, its a bit of a hassle but no biggy.
-
Mmmmmmmmm well i'm gonna have to be one of those 27! Looks very good, but whats it on about confirming ferrari will be in it?!I thought that was kinda obvious since they had the 599GTB in the demo which i played.
-
I got my black one's Thats the same guy who did the original group buy i didn't have any problems, but he's not the best person to deal with. ;)
-
Its Meddy_Turbo's old car and he got it from newera imports, its nice but i agree that the sunstrip has to go!
-
I can't help you with the timer mate but if you managed to boost up to 1.1bar then the fcd is working. Standard fuel cut is at around 0.8 bar and the setting on the fcd (assuming its an hks one) is 8 for the starlet, this will raise the boost cut to about 1.1 bar as you found! As i said originaly without any fuelling mods, which you don't have in that list of mods, you shouldn't really boost more than 0.8 bar as thats all the stock fuelling is good for. Its no surprise the engine started rattling at 1.1bar without fuelling mods! You'll be lucky if you haven't damaged anything. ;)
-
Wooooaahhh ;) that is nice, I'd buy it and convert it to manual if i was still looking for a glanza. ;) WRC really do get some nice cars in.
-
Woah 1.1 bar with just an FCD, thats not a good idea! ;) I'd turn it to a max of 12psi (0.8 bar roughly) if thats the only mods you have, thats all i run at. The installation of the actuator sounds right, and just to correct you the wastegate is inside the turbo and isn't the actuator.
-
Looks similar to mine when i first got it, except for yours looking goofy with that big front plate. ;) Good luck with her. ;)
-
Lol I'll ask if i can just sit an play forza when i go to get my car mapped! ;)
