  1. yeah i dont blame you just remember once you have fitted the engine and have it running, to set the timing up with a timing light to set it to +10 degrees, i.e the flashing light should make the mark show up at the 10 degree position when you retard or advance timing with the alternator loose. Are you running 4e or 5e?
  2. Hi Russ, you shouldnt be using the marks on the crank pulley for reference, it can give inaccurate results as to your timing. As long as you have lined up the notch on the oil pump pullley to the mark on the oil pump its self, then marked up the 4e hole so you can see the centre position dot on the right cam gear, and then lined up the two dots on both cam gears on the back, put the belt on, rotated the crank pulley twice and rechekced the markings (then tighten the tensioner) you will be fine. I never checked the crank pulley position on mine, manual says to use the other markings for set
  3. I have the tedious task of changing out the gearbox and changing my crank oil seals this week. What is the easiest way to do it, am i right in saying. 1. Wheel off 2. Driveshaft out 3. Unbolt all gearbox bolts 4. Unbolt gearbox engine mount 5. Lower box down and then wiggle off? Gonna put the car up on some ramps to do it on my drive so i can get underneath it. I think taking a gearbox off when the engine is in still is pritty much the only job i havent done on the car lol
  4. Defo timing issue, does your oil pump gear notch mark line up and then the 4e dot looking through the cam gear and also the two dots on the rear of the cams ?
  5. nothings wrong with it, but its got an oil leak from the gearbox side crank seal which i need to fix, dont really want to drive it leaking oil as its making a mess under the car. Never a dull day witht he starlet i tell you!
  6. Worth a punt but I am after both crank shaft seals, gearbox side and pulley side. Anyone got any spare in a gasket set they didnt use? Would normally buy new but I am totally fucked for funds this month, so much so i havent even been able to pay for japfest 2. I have been royally shaffted by some tennants I moved into my house and they have screwed me for a wedge, out of pocket big time and i have never seen my overdraft so bloody high! Been chasing my tail all month trying to get the money out of them, come to the point now where I am kicking them out this Friday. So anoying, basdard
  7. bit pricey for a gearbox change, i would of thought it was more like £125 to swap one out, its only an hour out and an hour in labour
  8. Well it was its first outing, plenty more to come
  9. check the selector cables are free which attach to the box, i.e you can move them freely when the engine is off. If it looks ok possibly a selector fork, doesnt sound good though!
  10. its 1.3bar but i wasnt even giving it full beans, was probably changing gear at about 6k as i was seeing what it was like for the first few laps, i reckon if i got the car sorted and was confident in it, i would be putting some serious laps in! Japfest 2 is next then
  11. i think somthing is just creaking in the cab that sounds like it
  12. Mine was doing this the otherday, the oil pump pulley inside was knocking inside the cover as it wasnt on properly when it was spinning, push the cover at the bottom right, does it make the sound go away?
  13. Need to replace the seals, taken it apart so much lately they have started leaking. Anyone got any, didnt really want to pay £51 for one seal on the gearbox side from camskill, #ripoff!
  14. bollocks got to reupload it! its uploaded a shit quality version!
  15. Just editing the video of my track time in the Boxy, will post it up in a bit.
  16. Blue smoke is either going to be coming from Rings, Turbo, valve stem seals or the PCV valve, make sure you have no oil in the intercooler pipes Disconnect the PCV valve from the intake and block it off on the intake manifold, see if that makes a difference
  17. Yeah i was pissed off i had to come off early, i was burning loads of oil for some reason. Turned out my PCV valve on my rocker had packed in and it was sucking oil into the bloody intake on boost. Was an easy fix but was putting shit loads of oil into my intake. I didnt even get a chance to wind the thing up, was only going slow! Its on the TD map on emanage blue now Bloody PCV valve on the rocker broke, started sucking in oil from my rocker into the intake!! Bloody thing!!!!
