I drilled mines out and had AN fittings welded on from the inside then blob welded the baffle back in

I opted for a full size twin core ZEP radiator. Not cheap but it does the job

sounds like an ignition issue, had similar symptoms on mines but went away after changing the ignition leads,

There is only 1 cable for both check its connected properly on the back of the instrument cluster.
