Your Childhood Experiences

Recommended Posts

Just thought of this after i was intrigued by Sparkys short story.

So, what turned you into a pistonhead?

Il start first as an example:

As a child i always played with cars, i loved ferrari's, in-fact my bedroom had a ferrari logo about a meter tall on my wall. along with a red/yellow and black color scheme-i loved my room.

I can remember when i was around 3/4, i used to hop on the back of my dads bike when he came home from work and he would take me around the estate.

I think it was my dads influence that created my first thrill/enjoyment from vehicles-he used to pick me up from school on an NC30 which was awsome.

Few years went by and i take interest in his 205GTI which i thought was the dogs dangles-i still want one today.

Since that point i kind of went off on my own, full filling my own cravings for motor vehicle madness. I loved r/c cars too. I might buy one of those yokohomo r/c drift sets ;)

Next thing you know im 16, i get a bike after begging for a year. Quite funnily actually, I was in business class(aged 15), my friends turns to me and says he's getting a bike when he turns 16... i shit a brick. At the time i had no idea that you could ride a bike at the age of 16... and from that point, all i thought about was..bike..bike.... bike.

That was when the ball really started rolling for me..

It runs in the family ;)

My dad, most his brother and even my mothers side have always been into motocross and rallying.

My dad has owned many of top notch motors including, a 2.1 capri which he built was fucking stunning (back in the 80's) Mazda 323 4wd Turbo, Cavalier SRI's, Seirra xr4x4 (rally prepped) and the all time Audi Quattro just to name a few :p

We used to go watch rallys just about every weekend and I was around AE86's, Quattros, GT4's, Cosworths etc etc.

Plus my dad took me to my first ever Rolling Road meet and it was a GT4oc meet at Powerstation. We took my Uncles Carlos Sainz ST185 and got it rolling roaded.

Also remember taking the rally car GT4 there to get mapped ;)

Also rememer going to JapFest at an early age :p

Been a petrolhead since I could remember, my dads first car was a 1975 MK1 VW Scirocco GLI, Blue, stripped out, got set on fire by chavs though one day, and he's had some pretty cool cars since then but the person who REALLY got me into cars was my uncle, he was a used car dealer and a mechanic, so when I was younger I would be seen in E34 535i's, 735i's, Jag XJS's, 318i/320i E30's, 325i E36 Convertibles, 328i //MTec Coupes, a 1976 450SL Merc (now in California as him and his friends built it but a Californian bought it and now its in a Museum), two rolls royce silver shadows etc, he was car mad, almost all of his own cars modded, he also had a 1.6 white capri and a 2.8i injection, just sitting around the shop or hanging around with him and my dad got me into cars. Loved 'em ever since, especially Starlets as my mum got it when I was just 7 years old and I've wanted to drive it ever since, and now do.

Shafz.

Had motor bikes scince i was 4, then had field cars etc before i could drive legally. Raced mountain bikes for years also.

Family has been a big insparation though with my old man and uncle racing years ago also, along with numerous cousins doing motocross.

I enjoy going fast really, and being in the competitive spirit.

Anything with wheels, and im happy you could say.

Down to my uncle i think, as a small child i spent most of my younger years living with my autie and uncle due to mum and dad working alot i think...

Used to go to race tracks every weekend to watch touring car racing, went to a few wrc rallys, met colin mcrae ;) and i remember the first time i got behind the wheel of a car, my uncles escort turbo, obviously i couldnt reach the pedals or change gear, but i was steering haha and nearly crashed into a tree iirc ;)

I have always been into cars from a very early age i mainly got into them through my dad as he has had his fare share of cars in the past from sierra's (He's looking to buy one at the minute) rs turbos ect but he used to tell me storys for when he had a job driving all imports from the docks and thats what made me like Jap cars.

But it was Bourkey and Markoos who got me into Starlets getting a passenger ride in Marks and DubSe7en's when i was learning to drive ;)

My granddad (who has sadly passed away) contributed a lot my to my child hood as i lived with my grand parents. he had classic mercs ;) . used to love them as a kid, people used to stare at them when they were driven, so SHINY! fully restored they looked like this. Most people like the maroon one.

Family, Tv, toy cars, internet etc.

Everything that can possibly make me into a petrolhead which it clearly has. Influenced by my father and brothers, watching them work on cars etc.. Then as I grew older the Internet has also greatly influenced me.

I am heavily into Jap cars but also dream about Porsches

my family is what infected me as a petrolhead my brothers have always been into there cars and bikes remember being like 8-10 years old getting backies on crossers around the high school across the road from where we lived from my older brothers the janitor of the school didn't mind as long as they went and asked him he was fine with it.

but my brothers have had all sorts of cars xr4x4's, xr3i's, xr2's, rs1600's, astra gte's, 205 gti's, cavalier sri's, scirroco's, my brother derek other than myself is the only one to modify there car though he had a 1.4 nova sr that he put weber twin 40's on and that thing was rapid.

and not to forget my late papa (R.I.P) one of the main reasons i guess i and the rest of my family are petrolheads, he was an engineer and loved nothing more than messing about with cars and in his younger years in the army loved his bikes, always remember when i was young he used to have a green nova (standard obviously lol) but was the cleanest and most prestine car i ever saw up to the day someone ran into the side of him destroying it, for cleanliness it put a lot of newer cars at the time to shame, was near concours condition lol.

My cousin and his Suzuki Swift GTI projects, and watching him buy/strip/build/paint them. You see where I get it from?

He bought a Mark 1 Starlet GT, and my brother bought an SR in his foot steps. I bought an SR then I just overtook them all!

Oh and I've always had posters of wheels in my room up until around 5/6 years ago. Just different types of wheels etc, that's probably why I try out so many different types of wheels! :p

To be honest i don't know what got me into car's i remember way back when i was only 3 years old at play school i always used to look forward to break time, i used to run to the little yellow and red car that you used to move along in using your feet haha

My dad never had any Special cars whilst i was growing up, Until i got to the age of 9 and i discovered the Nissan Skyline, Ever since i found out about the Skyline i've been hooked to Car's, Jap cars especially and then when i was 12 i basically demanded my dad to get a Skyline  as he was looking for a Special car as he has never had one, At the time he new nothing about them really and i have always had a thing for the R33 so we went to an import company in folkestone and when i walked in my love for Japanese car's just went to a whole new level i was 12 well into Japanese car's and i found myself surrounded by Supra's, Evo's, Subaru's, Skyline's and me and my dad spotted this R33 GTR in midnight purple over the back of the garage covered in dust with just some BBS Wheels on it and he basically just wanted it,

And i got into mechanics basically as it was my full back incase i failed to get into the RAF as a fighter pilot, It had been my ambition for my whole life to fly and still is, but i come of my BMX when i was in Year 9 at school and hit my head on a concrete step without a helmet on as obviously helmets were not exactly cool as they say, I was in hospital for 4 days getting Scans done on my brain ect and i was unlucky as it damaged my eye sight, ruining any chance i had of getting into the RAF to be-able to fly Jets, so i gave up and decided to get into mechanics im 2 months from being fully qualified and then im off to uni to do a Degree in motorsport engineering and i will hopefully get a job with a team in some kind of motorsport
