_shaun_
no clips or anything think its just a case of getting a bigger hammer.
james@cjperformance
tell them to take the hub and shaft off as one put the hub in a vice, use a half inch extension bar to hit the end of tbe shaft with the hub nut loosley on to protect the threads.failing that soak it in parrafin for a few hours and repeat
madmax_926
cheers james they said they might have to "remove the whole leg" and do what you said above but im guessing thats gonna get expensive? and im so skint, i hate this time of yr tax, mot, insurance all in the same month and now a giant repair bill
Flaminsam
what kind of garage doesnt have a hub puller? it bolts on using the studs and a screw type device or hydralic pushes on the middle of the shaft. most garages have one. either that or get a copper mallet. that way you wont damage the threads on the end of the shaft. madmax_926
right well EPIC FAIL the garage couldnt get the driveshaft out/unseized and today has cost me £210 and left with a broken car and have got mot this month "oh the joys"

ToyotaTech15
You could also remove the hub and use a hydraulic press to push out the shaft,Soaking the parts usually helps alot but you don't want anything to strong as it will penetrate the bearing. But copper mallet or press are the best optionsRegardsGary
madmax_926
Thanks Gary yer he said he would press it out, but that's gonna bump the price up a fair amount cause e will have to remove the whole leg etc it's just bollox man proper pissed off gonna take the car elsewhere me thinks
5T4R7ET N/A
£210?? what work did you have done? Drive shaft seals and CV joints are easy 20 - 30min jobs.removing the suspension leg shouldn't cost much more at all, four bolts at the top of suspension and three on track rod end. takes 5 mins.if they are charging a lot extra for that go somewhere else. Flaminsam
sounds to me like you have been done over bud. hate garages like that. your prob talking less than a half days work there. maybe 2 hours at most. plus you have supplied parts so i would say around £70 at the most.find a better garage/mechanic bud. if they struggled to get the driveshaft out then i would hate to see them attempt a engine or gearbox change. Max9650
Yeah you need to go to a decent garage, if they think its ok to overcharge you cause they can't do the job
madmax_926
yup proper pissed off with it. need a new garage, can never ever seem to find a half decent place
Max9650
Only place i can recommend is a guy off a corsa forum i used to belong to, 70% of his work is on vauxhalls, but he does engine conversions, remaps, service and repairs at good prices, have a look at his facebook page and see what you think, i'd use him if i was localhttp://www.facebook.com/pages/WG-MotorWorks/207028252672432#!/pages/WG-MotorWorks/207028252672432
5T4R7ET N/A
Sorry to say, they ripped you off.If i was you I would buy some tools and do the work yourself. save yourself and fortune and learn a lot about basic repairs.plenty of folk on the forum will help you out. aaddzz123
What a fucking rip off :/... When I worked in a garage even with all the tools etc, if I came across a seized driveshaft for example, all I'd do is brush down where I can with a wirebrush, use a bit of wd40 and smack the shit out of it with a copper mallet.... It always worked lol.... If need be just heat it up and replace the bearing. Fuck paying them for not even finishing the job though. That sucks! Liam_D
Air chisels are perfect for this job, used one on my bros Glanza when replacing a driveshaft gaitor
Scott-EP
I had my drive shaft seized into the Hub on my GT... 7 Tonne of pressure on the Hydraulic press down work soon sorted that out. haha
madmax_926
last week i ended up taking the car to my work mates brother, hes got a mk1 escort (mexico rep) in lime green running a 200sx engine which he done all the work on himself running some big power even has jun cams lol, anyway:yer took it to him old school garage= old school prices. He got it out but he said in 30 yrs of mechanics hes never seen a driveshaft seized so bad. He used this ancient looking hydraulic press to get it out and charged me a very reasonable £68 and changed the altenator/water pump belt as he noticed a nip in it.
