Socks
Several others.. not just me are starting or have already found the limit of power that can be put through these gearboxes...3rd gear strips completely...With Straight Cut gears well over £2500... there is a need for a gearbox that can handle the beef...So...Are there any gearboxes... off any other toyotas that fit that would be strong without having daft ratios (which rules diesel boxes out)6 speeds???Any info would be brill, as longterm I cba to keep replacing stuff! Michael!
Whats the limit i.e power that the standard gearboxes are limited too??Mike.
Socks
people have shredded boxes at much less then 300bhp. but me sat on 345bhp... it is taking its toll!
Amjad
I didn't think they were limited that badly with the Irish guys putting so much power through theirs 6 speeds are often quite notchy, my Aunt has a Corolla G6 and although 6 gears are nice, it doesn't feel anywhere near as tight as the 5spd in my GT

Meaning its wearing quick....
Michael!
Mine shud make around 270hp in the next week or so,hope this doesnt shred my gearbox over time!! then again i imagine they wernt designed in japan to be running this sort of power! lolmike.
Socks
they werent designed for twice the power, never mind nearly 3x the power!
Asad
Thought the 6spds werent as strong? I saw a pic of a diff gbox mounted to a ep in one of ziscos for sale threads iirc my post was deleted...it looked alot bigger compared to the ep oneEither way custom mounts/housing plate/shafts are on the list..Get better gearbox oil too it should help alot! Azz
I'm sure I saw a glanza for sale a while back with an ae86 box in it
shorty
Ae86 box wont work as its for a rwd and sits the wrong way. corolla g6r boxes arnt as stong as gt boxes. id be loking at 3s-ge gearboxes tbh if it will fit.
raffa_mk
dont think the 6speed is going make any difference in terms of how much power it can handle as its a 6th gear added on to excisting 5speed box 2bh, i love my 6speed when it was na but even more so boosting can take you for a spin in it at japfest if you can get in as my seats are high

daniel_g
According to this, GT with ae111 gearbox and 1 way lsd. Could be possible, and its putting 300bhp throught it. But then you can't believe everything you read.../>http://www.modifiedcars-export-japan.jp/inventory/de0200837.html

Socks
Thanks for advice people... Have to have a chat with Ricky about custom options...Treat your box badly and it's gonna happen. What are you implying by that make... Im struggling to read that in any other way then a bit offensive...?I very rarely put my foot down in my car, when I do unless its giving a ferarri a tickle, i dont have the boost all the way up...Norr do i yank the gearstick around or behave like a tool.... Asad
it was only a matter or time (i was thinking about this the other day funnily enough).........a couple of years ago most people ran stock - 160/180bhp now its 200+ on nearly all FTEs across the board.......your doing right by thinking out of the box but its not going to be a cheap venture by all meansid go with shortys suggestion and shoehorn another toyota box in...and possibly get a "conversion kit" together
Glanza Mac
hmm i read that in the same way aswel "/, its not just top end bhp that causes it either.. its more torque that ruins gearboxs in my opinion hence why diesel boxes cope more
Amjad
id go with shortys suggestion and shoehorn another toyota box in...and possibly get a "conversion kit" togetherThis sounds like the way to go, someone must have done it somewhere!

Asad
He was selling a drag inlet mani iirc and it was fitted in a engine bay, you could clearly see the box was different Have a look the zisco F/S threads
morgey
Id look into a supercharhed 4agze box its either a c52 or c56 cant remember which the bellhousings should swap over from the fte and if your lucky the driveshafts will fit.I've read threads about people destroying normal 4age boxes with 400+ hp changed to the 4agze box and theyve been fine. Only thing to look out for is if there like the normal ge box 5th gearTents to pop out on high milage ones!
lilryan
if you used a diesle box could you not change the the final drive gear so it wasen't as bad ratio's /.also my uncle has had his gearbox cryo frozze and braced on his astra coupe that runs 500plus and its fine now .ill try fined out the companys name who did the frezzing process .cryo-tech springs to mind but ill have a check .just a stap in the drak aswell but what about the celica gt4 box or the gears out of it maybe
Shahzad
My mate had his civic box done by a company called frozen solid. It costs him around £600 to get a complete box done.Check the site out/>http://www.frozensolid.co.uk
