Marc Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I think this is for the physics guru's to decide although i would like to discuss the topic. I have heard that the smaller the wheel the faster acceleration but slower top end speed. Vice versa for larger wheels. Has anyone had small wheels on their cars and upgraded to a larger wheel size and noticed a decrease in acceleration, ride comfort etc? Quote
Starletmeech Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 haha no i ride on 13'son TOC i think there is a conversion table! I'm sure about the top end speed being larger for bigger wheels but not sure about the accelleration! could see where they are comming from though, as larger wheels weigh more and it takes less effort to get the power to the road! Bourkey Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 My SR came with 15" speedlines and ive got new wheels but the same size as they seem a perfect balance between speed and handling. Quote
Glanza_Ragger Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 15's for me.perfect balance on the starlets imo Quote
Sparky Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I went from 15s to 16s, definitley lost a LITTLE accelertaion and handling but looks pretty sweet Quote
paul w Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I've got 16"s and it dosn't bother me if i lose a lil bit of speed because i got a nice power hike comin soon so the bigger tyres will be kinda handy! Quote
RobSR Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 the smaller the wheels the less drag you have i belive, so 14's maybe a little quicker in acceleration...Rob Quote
Jozinobi Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 15"s are the best compromise for street.14"s will go down well on the track.Joz Quote
Idrees Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I had 15s.. Now 14s.. and I will be going for 15s again (But 16" if I find the rims I want in this size!) Quote
Starletmeech Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 13's!!! Stick to my sexy 13's! I quite like them apart from their lack of width! Quote
rob_bower Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 im currently running 15's with 50 profile tyres which seem pretty good for me Quote
GlanzaGirl Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 stayin with lightweight 15's, the biggest size id put on a starlet !! Quote
annan Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 running on 15's who needs topend when you are so far in front lol Quote
SiCaln Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 i run the speedlines then went upto 18s! and lost so much acceleration, and my car looked like a 4x4 then i changed to the rays what a difference - lightweight 15s ftw Quote
scutch0 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 i had standard 16's on my n/a. it still did ok up against a vtr.ive had 15's and 14's on my glanza, lightweight 14's are by far the best investment ive made for power to weight. and ive notice a tiny decrease in grip, but nothing to write home about.the only problem with 14's is that youre limited on brake upgrades. Nanglebadger Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 15s and 17s...dont recommend 17s at all for a starlet, 15s i believe are where its at!Phil. Quote
gaz Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 16's are good if you have lots of power and need bigger brakes, like those D2's.but otherwise 15's id say.G Quote
Sparky Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 I believe its 17s to fit the D2 brakes But Hi-spec make a 300mm big brake kit that goes under 15s Quote
