DevonGT
OK, thought it about time I put a thread up as there's been a few changes to my "bought not built" ep85. Just over 11 months ago i bought Mark's (www.glanza.co.uk) Starlet Soliel L EP85 as I knew it would be an excellent example. Mark had sorted the car with a 4efte conversion so all there was for me to do was enjoy it. Some pics of the car.SPECIFICATIONSEngine- Full 4E-FTE conversion, using uncut Gt Engine loom- Stock GT Turbo 2-plug ECU- WEPR Mild Steel TD04L Manifold- TD04L Turbo (excellent condition, no play), Wastegate welded shut, Meshed intake.- Custom S/S braided oil feed and custom oil return- 38mm External Wastegate- Custom Front Mount Intercooler, S/S pipework, front crossmember brace customised for intercooler mounts.- S/S 316L Custom Front Exit Exhaust, with removable & tunable silencer bung.- S/S 316L Screamer Pipe- All Aircon removed from engine bay- Slimmer fan used on radiator for clearance- Turbosmart MBC boost controller- Sard RRFPR with Gauge- Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump- TRD Ignition leads- Full fluids and filters service when fitted- Oil Breather Filter fitted to rocker coverChassis- TRD Front Non-Adjustable Shocks and Springs- APEX Rear Lowering Springs- OEM GT Front Strutbrace- Cusco front Lower Arm Brace- Stock rear ARB- Exedy Paddle Clutch (Brand New)- GT Front Brake Calipers with 3G Grooved Front Discs & Uprated Brake padsInterior- GT Front Seats- Stock Rear Bench- Autogauge Boost Gauge- Razo Pedal Kit- Pioneer CD/Tape Double Din unit- Pioneer uprated Front Speakers- Pioneer Shelf-Mounted Rear Speakers- Full Starlet Mat SetExterior- 14" LERA JDM alloy wheels- Front bumper cut to fit fmic behind it, looks stock- Side Window Wind DeflectorsAs you can see the car came with a good spec and it was no surprise when it made 185.7bhp and roughly the same amount of torque running 0.6 bar on the dyno at EngineTuner. So over the following months I got to know the car and enjoy the 4wd experience, then around December I started thinking about upping the boost on the standard engine or going forged.Towards the end of December I'd made the decision to go forged and that I wanted Zisco to do the build. After chatting with Keith we sorted out a spec, a date for build completion and shipping to the UK. While I knew the engine build was in good hands, I had a shopping list of parts that i needed to complement it.First thing I wanted to sort was the lack of a BOV and the mesh on the turbo.Greddy Type S (Genuine)TD04 filter relocation kitTo go with these I got a weld on flange for the BOV and a K&N filter.Next I got an EBCBlitz Dual SBC Type RThen needed to do something about the management.Apexi PFC + CommanderBigger injectors were also going to be needed.460cc injectors - cleaned and flow tested. Also got some EV1 to Denso adaptors for them.Still had the standard engine mounts, so knew they would need uprating.Powerflex engine mountsAs I only had a Autometer boost gauge I thought it best to get some more to monitor things. I went for a set of Prosport stepper motor/peak series gauges, - oil temp, oil press and fuel press. A single din holder to fit them in the dash and a Mocal sandwich plate for the oil readings.A pic of them fitted. Will be getting the boost controller surrounded in carbon.Next up was a new oil pumpcambelt kitwater pumpAlso an engine gasket setHad them sent out to Malta to be fitted to the engine. While I was getting all these parts together, Keith was busy gathering parts for the engine build.Helix clutch & pressure plateCusco flywheelCruise headgasketRoss pistons with Total seal ringsPauter rodsACL bearingsChampion spark plugsZisco valve springsZisco uprated valve stem sealsSome of the engineering work had already been started but with most of the parts in place the rest of it could be done. All through the engineering work and the engine assembly I was kept well up to date with the progress by Keith with a constant stream of pictures and info. Here's just a selection as there is quite a lot. All Packaged up and ready to go. FULL ENGINE SPECFully rebuilt 4E-FTE cylinder head - stripped, cleaned with extensive port/polish (mirror finish exhaust side), valves reseated, fresh face at engineers and machined to fit ARP studs.- Race spec top cover with 2x10AN fittings.- Uprated valve springs and valve seals.- 4E-FTE engine block, fresh hone, fresh face and decked. Machined to fit ARP 10mm studs, 2 studs have helicoils for increased tension.- C/R 7.9:1- Ross 74.5mm pistons, Total Seal rings.- Pauter forged rods.- Cruise 1.2mm headgasket.- ARP 10mm studs.- Lightened, polished and balanced crank.- Cusco steel flywheel- New flywheel bolts.- Helix 4 puck clutch and pressure plate.- New oil pump/water pump.- New cambelt/tensioners.- ARP crank bolts.- ACL big end, main ends and thrust washers.- Oil pick up and oil sump.- Custom aluminium catch tank. Can't heap enough praise on Keith and the guys at Zisco, delivered on everything they said they would. Quality, engine completion, packaging and shipping. Always available if I had any questions, kept me informed from start to finish. It's been a pleasure dealimg with Keith etc and I'm so over the moon with the engine and the fact it was so well packaged it arrived with out so much as a scratch on it.During the time the engine was making it's way to the UK, I was in talks with my tuner about turbo choices and whether to stay with the standard TD04 or not. As it happens the company he uses for turbos was about to bring out a hybrid TD04, so it was a case of give us a shout when you get hold of one and we'll talk a bit more.Bang on time the engine arrived and as it was going in the turbo turned up. As it was an ideal time to fit it and I like to be a bit different and try things i went for it.Unfortunately I forgot to get some pics before it went on but this is the sister turbo to the prototype on mine.Pic of the engine fitted and carbon cover in front of the filter. The engine with the turbo is proving to be very responsive even off boost, more so then the previous engine. Not sure what to expect once it's mapped but i'm sure it will be a lot of fun. Running the car in at the moment and it's been during this time I've been looking at what to do about the brakes, whether to go for K-sports, Wilwoods or WMS and get bigger wheels as well.In the end I was lucky enough to get this kit.Endless super micro 6 system inch up brake kitThere's a few more little things that need doing but i'll update as and when they happen. Hope you like.
