Weyro
Just wondering if you need to use any silicone sealant when replacing the rocker gasket?Cheers
Idrees
No, make sure both surfaces are very clean and just use a bit of multi purpose grease on the seal so it's air tight. IdreesID-Workz
Rob H@RCH Engineering
Just in the corners where the cam caps meet the head just put a small line across the seam and the same for the one for the distributor clamp.
Rob H@RCH Engineering
No, make sure both surfaces are very clean and just use a bit of multi purpose grease on the seal so it's air tight. IdreesID-WorkzThis is wrong the Toyota manual states to do the above. because the seal does not squash into the tight corners good enough to make a good seal.
Weyro
Cool, thats what i was thinkingcheers
Idrees
In my many years of working on these cars I have never ever used gasket sealer on the cam cover gasket. Just a touch of grease has always done the job perfectly for me.
Rob H@RCH Engineering
They use a grey silicone from the factory, I have the part number for it at home it's in the manual I got from Toyota 15 years ago ya could say I have been building these engines some time too. Asad
when you remove it (if it hasnt been removed before that is) you`ll see the grey sealant...round the timing belt area especially just reapply it after and your good to gois it leaking? if its still soft you dont have to replace it
TrisK
Moral of the story is you have to use sealantbut the offical line, from Toyota, is you should. So if your doing it and dont have any, dont worryif you have some, its not going to hurt
corofin12345
as rob said... a new gasket wont leak straight away but after a few runs it "will" from those areas he mentioned.. better of doing it right the first time
ryan lang
mines still fine :/ no sealant
Weyro
Mine was leaking quite alot a while ago, so i took it off cleaned the gasket and the joining surfaces, then put a shit load of sealant on the cap cover things. It was fine for a few months but now its leaking again, think i might have used too much sealant.
