Viewing one tommorow.. Would love to know what to look out for MECHANICALLY.

mechanically. Id say these cars suffer from:

Engine

bottom end shells or headgaskets...

gearbox, crunching into gears

shocks leaking...

but tbh, the usual checks u will be fine!

rust isn't usually an issue, but have a look around the bodywork like you would normally!

Ok, Thanks guys. Viewing a 98 Spec Silver tomorrow morning.

He mentioned the gearbox sounds "clunky" generally speaking are they loud when changing gear?

Thanks StarletSR i will check the cylinder head!

Other than checking for sludge in the oil cap how else could i tell headgasket issues or potentially an engine failing.

I just HPI checked it, and DVLA MOT checked. It only shows 1 MOT online. He has no documentation but the mileage ties in with what its advertised at.

It does say changed owners in DEC 2009 when he told me he got it. and he IS the only owner correct with the HPI check.

Opinions?

You can check the smell of the coolant wether it smells of exhaust gasses or not and check for signs of water pushing back out the the expansion tank mine does all this as my head gasket is furbard still drives fine though and bled twice a week and works as normal haha

Gearbox is the most common imo, some will say there is a 'slight' clunk but turns out to be a big nasty one, and top wheeler dealers tip from mike brewer of discovery channel haha.. Feel the engine when you get there to see if its warm, you want to view the car from a cold start, then check for smoking and all that usual guff :) good luck!

The gear shifting tends to be quite notchy/clunky but only by feel not by noise.

Rev the car in neutral progressively to around 3500rpm, this is where the bottom end tends to knock. If you hear any metal to metal contact or tinging then walk away as it will be a big repair bill.

Perfect thanks for that. Excited at the prospect of glanza. I hope it's good condition and mechanically sound.

Could be a new V owner in the morning!

I bought it!

Poor girl was sorned for 2 years! Under a cover. Bodywork is immaculate bar a scratch on the boot!

Drives fine bar needing some new brake pads.

Couldn't believe the poke it had coming from a K20 EP3 Type-R!

81,000 KM's unmolested bar a HKS silent power exhaust! Original starlet mats & flare! BONUS!

Really pleased!
