It's not 'safe' because your friends girlfriend dogs vicars wifes neighbours pet cat friend's engine has lasted a while, it's hit and miss, it's there for a reason... They balance things for a reason.

Do you balance your wheels...? They would have been balanced when made why do you bother.......

If it were me, stock engine I wouldnt bother with parts from one original engine. A mix match engine I probably would as parts might have came from different batches and be different slightly.

Forged build, yes, you've just spent 'x' amount on buying parts why skimp on something that's going to help the longevity of it?

This maybe a stupid thought as I wouldn't no much about this but surely if each piston+rod set weight the same it would be fine as the crank will already have been done so should still be spot on

i was thinking the same and have been told this by a few people, the crank and flywheel have already been balanced so there is no need for that, only the pistons and rods.

It all needs to be balanced together - crank, rods, pistons and flywheel

How do you ballance it, when rods and pistons are connected to the crank ?

with skill!

crankshafts are not usually balanced with rods and pistons attached.



you can however have them balanced with the clutch and flywheel assembly attached to the crank shaft

I have never seen anybody ballance it with rods and pistons attached, dont se hov that is posible.


You check weight of pistons/rods, and then you ballance crank/flywheel/clutch together



So my quistion is, when you change the clutch, how do you make sure that everything is ballanced

your answer is, you dont.

but there must be a reason why hes having the engine rebuilt, so its worth getting it checked. i highly doubt he'd be getting it rebuilt if there was nothing wrong with it in the first place

im getting it rebuilt cause my bore notches werent big enough on the ehxaust side of the engine so my rods were skimming the bores which is probably why, cause the only big end that wasnt fucked was the rod that had sufficient clearance (can see the slight lines on the other rods from where it was hitting) thats my theory anyway and same from a few others
