mikey4410 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Heya guys. So I fitted a new stock turbo exedy clutch a couple of months back and it was still slipping as the old one was. Second gear was the very apparent gear it happens In for whatever reason.so I thought it wasnt man enough for the job as running circa 200bhp (although alot of people have run this power and not had issue) So I went for a super duper £350 6 puck paddle from iddy at id workz which is lovely and heavy and you can tell its really got a good clamping pressure.went out for a drive and I am sure that the 2nd gear slip there still there and also third gear. The clutches are always cleaned with clutch cleaner fully and thoroughly, and also I defiantley not resting foot on clutchwhen flooring car and lastly theres 1cm of free play at top of clutch so its defo fully disengaged. The flywheel mating surface is fully smooth and has what looks like little mini white lightning bolts going through it all the way round. As u can imagine I am getting bit fed up of doin clutch removals and fittings. Whats going on ? Quote
daniel_g Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Did you get the flywheel skimmed or check it with a DTI ? Quote
mikey4410 Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 There are small markings around the surface that look like lightning bolts.they are 4-5mm long and thers loads of them. No checks done on flywheel whatsoever. Quote
mikey4410 Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 Also theres no oil or anything on the flywheel or clutch etc. No leaks Quote
weeman Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 How many miles have ya done on it? Did you bleed the slave out properly? Quote
mikey4410 Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 Like 10 miles. The clutch is working fine in the fact the pedals letting the clutch fully engage as there is 1cm or so of play on the clutch before you hit the pressure of the pedal if u get me. Quote
Cushion Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Not sure if this is any help but my old 6 puk paddle had to be broken in for 500 miles, not sure if that'll effect it in any way Quote
richardc9052 Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 You say your sure it slipped? If it slipped you would definitely know! Quote
mikey4410 Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 I am 99% its slipping. I am sure my flywheels knakered. By process of elimination it would be the only thing left I havent replaced and it didnt look great on the contwct surface on it Quote
mikey4410 Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 also if i buy a genuine stock flywheel will it be ready to use straight away or will it require any checks ? Quote
richardc9052 Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 If your going to buy a new flywheel you might as well buy a lightened one. If your talking about using a second hand one if it hasn't been skimmed then your still in the same boat Quote
mikey4410 Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 i will only buy a brand new one,thats what i mean,will a new one be a plug in and play ?? Quote
daniel_g Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 A new flywheel will be perfect and no checks or anything, just a few miles bedding in for the paddle clutch.Have you considered getting the flywheel you have lightened by a machine shop ? Quote
mikey4410 Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 i havent to be honest,at this stage having removed and refitted a clutch twice i just want it done and sorted third time round as its not really a job i wana have to do again a forth time etc. just want original brand new part and know its all the best it can be . i think its the most sensible way to go ? Quote
richardc9052 Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 A new original will probably more expensive than a new lightened one... I know what I'd choose Quote
mikey4410 Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 Is not cheaper otherwise I would. A toyota one is 150 new and lightned ones are 200 to 400 Quote
daniel_g Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Id get a used FTE flywheel and send it to be lightened, would cost half the price of a new one. Quote
