Charlie28 Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 Did ypu recoup any cash in the end?No buddy. Quote
jayc-glanza17 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Only silver lining is crank and block look like can be used to build another engine.Still I know not ideal..Is there nothing you can do to reclaim cash? Quote
Charlie28 Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 The head is also very clean. I was told by Mike at TD he had recently re-built it. I will get it re-built anyway just for piece of mind! Only silver lining is crank and block look like can be used to build another engine.Still I know not ideal..Is there nothing you can do to reclaim cash?Nothing really unfortunately buddy. Quote
Charlie28 Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 So I got the head off todayHeads very clean as I believe Mike @ TD had recently re-built it. But when I removed the head I found this...Pistons arnt pitted as I had originally thought, but something isn't right? Any idea's? Quote
maddox710 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Lots of burnt oil. Take the piston of the wrist pin and get someone to clean them in parts washer or do it yourself then re ring them to spec of the block Quote
Charlie28 Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 But what would cause that? Can you buy the rings separately? Quote
adzy Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Did someone not say that when it went bang on track it was smoking real bad? Maybe the turbo went and it was getting oil through the intake? Quote
Charlie28 Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 I believe someone bought the turbo and it was shagged. But I've fitted another turbo to the engine and ran the car and it knocks badly Quote
Charlie28 Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 After talking to Jay we believe it's suffered a major piston ring failure! Plan is to get some new 74.5mm pistons and get some machine work done on the block/head/crank. Quote
akyakapotter Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Think the clean piston may be where the head gasket had gone during mapping the first time round hence why it had the head rebuilt ect. Quote
GlanzaJim Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 This must of been that night racing that vxr. Sure he was unmapped. And he dumped alot of splats of oil and shed load of smoke a over the vxr, didnt see him again! Quote
Charlie28 Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 Yeah, that would explain the ring failure and oil out the exhaust! Quote
jayc-glanza17 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Glad you texted me in end then.haha..Like I said block and crank are salvageable. .So all is not lost buddy..I thought he was mapped by td tho Jim? Quote
akyakapotter Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Mapped but I believe he had changed things and not had it checked. Quote
jayc-glanza17 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Ah okay so not a fresh map for fresh parts? Quote
akyakapotter Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Ah okay so not a fresh map for fresh parts?I'm sure he changed his manifold set up which would affect it Quote
jayc-glanza17 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Unfortunately Charlie story gets worse..Just focus on any positive man..The crank looked good from your pics you sent Quote
GlanzaJim Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Glad you texted me in end then.haha..Like I said block and crank are salvageable. .So all is not lost buddy..I thought he was mapped by td tho Jim?He was mate. You know rob forever changing parts. He changed a few things, and that night he came out i went and had a chat with him. He even said in his own words "in needs mapping again" but 10 mins later he went for a burn, my mate came back he didnt and his screen was filled with oil from robz car. I messaged rob and he told me that a pipe blew of witch caused it to spit oil. Cant remember what pipe he said tho. But yeah that was just a lie to cover really he had blown it.. couple days later he broke the car.. and charlie got the engine. I feel so bad not telling charlie because i knew that something wasnt right. I just looked at this thread too late.. rob was planning on keeping his glanza for a long long time but obvs that happend and away he went.. never to be returned again because im sure he knew what he done.
