Kayleighhep82 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 What fabric do people use to do this? Also what do they use to get such a flat surface & what's the best way to do it? Quote
Ollieh17 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I have one bud and breaking my glanza. Hard to ship though Quote
Kayleighhep82 Posted May 22, 2015 Author Posted May 22, 2015 I'm looking to do it on a gt just need to know what fabric people use & do people use plugboard or something else? Also what's the best way to build it? Quote
Hou Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 It all depends how much weight you want to add ad the reason for doing it. Whoever's car that is needs shooting for that harness placement though Quote
FreedomCore Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I used 11mm MDF. I'll get a link for the fabric I used later. It's pretty good for dampening it sound. Looks OEM too. Quote
drongo boi Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I used chipboard and strenthened in with timber and covered it in cheap carper it's not the lightest but it's strong and hard wearing I'll get a pic up later 😄 Quote

MARC MOSS Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Wonder if they are bolted through the wood lol Quote

FreedomCore Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261743249926?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITI cut it about 2 inches longer than the wood floor and used some 6mm self tappers on the back. I also sprayed fabric adhesive to make the fabric stay taught on the top. Quote
Calum122 Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 You took the words right out of my mouth there lol For the FNG's here you want to explain the problem? I take it that's not even secure in the event of a crash? Quote
FrozenJakalope Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 For the sake of argument, if there were 2 averagely-weighted people in there of around 67kg each and they crashed at 60, there would be the equivalent of 370kg trying to be held back by that one 2-inch section of wood. Quote
MARC MOSS Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Ahh lol fucking new guys yea?As above if those badly positioned harnesses are actually mounted to that wooden base in the rear the seatbelts would be as good as not wearing any at all Quote
_shaun_ Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 looking at it id say there bolted onto the rear seat bracket that lets them fold but id still not trust it ha!. could be worse when i bought my car the harness had been cable tied to a strut brace and the seat had 2 bolts in it! Quote

Cable tied?! I've driven some sketchy shit in my time but fuuuuuck. Quote
Hou Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Even still, that is bad placement even if bolted to the rear floor in that position. In the event of a crash, they would twist the seat due to not being central to the chair, and due to the large angle down would snap the back of the chair. The MSA rule book has very specific angles for this reason alone Quote
Kayleighhep82 Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 Not looking for a discussion on the angles of harnesses etc just looking for opinions on the best way to achieve that look in the rear ie carpet, suede, what to use to make a surface etc etc Quote
