So when in my brothers car we notice the idle drop significantly when the alternator is under load. Now it does this in my car, but not to the extent that it does in my brothers.

It will idle spot on at 1000 rpm, turn everything on, heaters on full, lights, dipped and fogs. Then the idle drops to around 400-600 rpm, amazing it doesn't stall.

Naturally he is trying to avoid this at the moment. But was just wondering if anyone else has incurred anything similar.

my 1 doos the same i never got to the bottom of it new battery and alternator and it still doos it so came to the conclusion that it probly has to do with the idler system we have ( mines deleted ) so could not test further

Yep I have the same on my GT will idle perfect but it's only when I do up both door windows together the idle will drop alittle then go back up to normal

When the engine is cold and I have the headlights on etc, most of the time the car does a cold high idle of ~1000-1500 (which is normal?), and then some days it'll be a pain in the arse and idle at 600rpm no matter what, shaking the car to bits. Does my tits in, but the grey unit on the end of the inlet mani (ICV?) was a new item about 2 years ago, so can't be that. I'm wondering if it's throttle body related, or grounds related...

Well my brother is a sparks and he's convinced it's ground related. I'm thinking possible a good earthing kit may sort out some issues.

His and mine idle spot on. So I don't see what the difference is.

For as long as I can remember, my GT has always been lurchy at low speeds too, no idea if that's related or not.

Tps probably
