c series gearboxes and interchangeability
Chops replied to Chops's topic in Drivetrain & Transmission
cool, cheers for the help i appreciate it! i wont be stripping down gearboxes, thats a mission i cba to deal with lol. it seems a shame to dismantle my admittedly perfect stock lsd box to make a c160 fit, i might hunt around my local scrappys for a c series box that fits an e series engine and plunder it for its parts to keep mine intact. -

I'm rocking an oem viscous atm, does the job pretty well! im only aiming for the low 200s with a tf035 and some other goodies for now, still acquiring parts for a mean engine build next yearish. does swapping the diff over mess with the final drive? ive been number crunching the ratios on this http://www.apexgarage.com/tech/gear_ratios.shtml trying to work out which gbox suits me best. I like the ratios I've got in the c52, by preference id keep them and chuck an extra one on the end, cause motorways make your ears bleed pretty quickly in my car lol! -
Hey all, now i know its been asked and asked and asked over the years, but ive been looking through various old threads and cant find any real agreement on this subject. My clutch is knackered and i have a nice lightened flywheel to fit, and was having a think about sticking a 6 speed in there while its all in bits. The common swapout of choice seems to be the c160 out of the old g6 and g6r corollas, but many many people come flying in when the 160 is mentioned with claims that the c160 is made of cheese and eats itself if you chuck it on an fte. even wiki felt the need to mention this, and

Ill take that fuel pump dude, pm'd!

Smokey owns top secret iirc?

what amazes me is what they sell for in 3 door manual guise, ive seen em up for and sell at the cost of a resonable r32 gtst or 300zx twin turbo, and they rock bullshit 4wd like that :L. My prezzers a gc8 prefacelift wrx, pretty much stock and its amazing in every way but fuel economy, when it isnt dead. Dont touch anything with an aftermarket alarm fitted, theyre shit!
-
The celica has fully indipendant rear suspension. I didnt know the 4wd starlets had a live rear axel, thats pretty naff lol. I suppose the actual bodyshell of the 4wd starlets isnt too diferent to the fwd, just a slightly larger tunnel down the car, and different fuel tanks and such. Id love to do the conversion to celica running gear, but mines fwd and ive got a (currently dead) prezza for 4wd lols.

i recon my suggestion is feasable, a custom bellhousing wouldnt even be that difficult to fabrcate. Youd just need to chop the 3sgte and 4efte bellhousings up and weld the halves or flanges or whatever you want together (easier explained physically than with words lol), giving thought to lining the clutch assembly and the starter motor n shit all up. You could use the rear diff from the same donor car, and youd end up with a pretty tough 6 speed at the end too!

How about a e series gearbox off something like a celica gt4, with a modified c series bellhousing and driveshafts made from regular starlet shafts with e series cv housings on the ends to fit the diff?

ACIS manifold and throttle spacer / insulator
Chops replied to Blue Icarian Wings's topic in Starlet Parts For Sale
id assume it was due to the shorter runners having less volume fr the turbo to pressurise, giving shorter spool times and therefore torque earlier in the rev range. More torque might be to do with how the 4e's undersquare nature responds to boost, like turning up the boost on a turbodiesel, but ive no idea im literally guessing lol, hoped youd know for sure! -

damnit, now im interested in it lol. How would it help spool a bigger turbo if u dont mind my asking? -
Should have gone to that one, went to the beulieu one as it was closer but was a bit naff lol
-
will do mate cheers!

Just been looking through here, your gt looks amazing phil, ive always preferred the look of the mk1s bumpers and rear lights to the mk3 gear on mine. Can i ask where u got that brake rebuild kit u mentioned from? Ive a set of levin twinpots ive had for mooonths that i cant fit till ive found a rebuild kit for em, its doing my head in lol!
-
I have a gt so i dont know if you could do it, but back when i was on the old micra forums the done thing was to pop your headlight apart and paint any part of the headlight reflector that wasnt actually used to project light black, like this. http://www.micra.org.uk/threads/my-k11-super-turtle-build-project.45517/page-2 i dont know if theres any part of an n/a headlight u could do that to, but if there is im pretty sure no one else has dont it on here!

u might struggle a bit to find n/a eyebrows, maybe consider flyeye as an alternative? I recon itd suit the look your car now has. I like it, it seems to have a minimalist purposeful look to it now

Ill be coming this time, alternator blew up and left me stranded last time lol, but my starlet will be completely refurbed for 2015s jf! Might have some mates coming along too in other things, invade the starlet stand a bit :L
