True, but I was talking about general engine performance, you'd think the newer cars would blitz the older ones on paper especially with VVT and whatever else they have.
-
Is it just me or does anyone else not like modern cars? I'm probably just being too biased as I loved the 90's, a 90's car is what I consider a real car. Anyway, I was reading up on the Yaris SR expecting it to be a massive improvement but no... Over ten years later and the latest 1.3 liter engine in the Yaris SR is no better of a performer than the good old 4EFE. Even more pathetic, is the 1.8 liter. 131 BHP from a 1.8 is PATHETIC! The 1.8 in the gen 7 Celica makes either 140 or 190 bhp depending on which model, so what's the deal with this pansy 131 bhp engine? Ok, it's probably better on

They don't have fanbelts mate it'll be an alternator belt you need.

My advise to you Sam would be to save as much money as you can doing odd jobs here and there, obviously it's hard to get a job at 15, but you can legally do something like 10 hours a week AFAIK. (Wages are shit and it will most probably be in a shop or something but it's better than nothing if you can bare the shittiness of it). Anyway, you're 15 and wont be on the road until you're 17 (assuming they don't change it), so you've got alot of time between now and then. So if I were you, I'd just save as much money as I could, and use time to your advantage, check ebay alot, sales topics on here

Should do mate, also, you might want to consider using an open filter rather than the airbox, it's working well for me, just make sure to get it in a good position, I paid <£50 for my setup and it works very well, especially now it's winter and we have colder air. Keep the exhaust diameter under 2 inches. If you have extra cash, I'd recommend getting a good exhaust manifold aswell. (Pacesetter or OBX are readily available for the 5EFE but will fit the 4E).

Great work Sam, I especially like these: But what are these doing here? BBS are German, although IIRC a Jap company manufactures them or some other BBS wheels. I do like the amount of JDM wheels that look like the BBS ones though, I have always like that style.

LOL @ "motivational poster" or whatever they're called My favourite one is: Edumacations - Learn me a book
-
Not to sound like a stupid ass, but I actually have no idea where the thing is that you need to adjust ;)
-
How it's done is what we want to know. ;)
-
My mods are similar to yours bar the exhaust, I've got a rolla mani, and an open air filter, also running good spark plugs, leads, etc... As for the ignition timing, do you adjust it while the car is running or do you adjust it then turn it on/off? Risks of over advancing it are permanent engine damage I imagine?

£400? fark me, I might have a look for some shocks/springs on there next year then, but I don't really trust 2nd hand suspension tbh
-
I've considered doing this but is there any problem with water getting in? It's winter now and I think we're going to be in for a pretty bad one, wont raising the bonnet let everything in if it snows/rains?
-
How much did they set you back?
-
I also want to do this + would like to know more before I go messing with anything. All I know at the moment is: -You only need to adjust it a few degrees. -If you hear "pinking" it has been advanced too much and will need to be retarded. (lol?) -Everything should be fine aslong as you aren't getting any pinking Also Sparky mate, what mods do you have at the moment, and could you let me know what the results from the dyno are (I guess you'll post them anyway), I just want a rough idea of what my power is at the moment.

Cam belt and alternator belt will be ordered soon, just a bit of maintenence as it has just passed 72k on the clock. After that it will be the brakes (replacement of pads & shoes) and then the rest of my earnings from now until I have enough money will be saved, and sometime early next year (hopefully) I will be buying another Starlet, swapping the parts over, and selling this one.

As I've said on msn mate I think lessons are a rip off and waste of money, I did four lessons, £96, learnt ONE thing. ONE. So I refuse to have more lessons. I have the theory practise CD which has videos and info on the things you need to do in the practical, I can't justify the price of lessons, so I'm just going to watch the proper ways of doing things and then practise them. I mean, I can drive just fine, but they want you to do everything in a specific way, which is bullshit IMO. My problem is that I've picked up all of my dads bad habits, only having one hand on the wheel and thin

IIRC the Glanza S has around 90-95 bhp. It has the inlet manifold, different injectors and slightly different ecu, but it runs on higher pressure or something like that... But remember the japs run on slightly different fuel.

Starlet N/A tuning.. whats next?
ste91 replied to 200sx-Starlet-Jay's topic in N/A E-Series Engine Discussions
If you check in the 4EFE tech section I have a couple of threads askin the same sort of question, some good info in there matey. What mods do you have at the moment? -
It shouldn't do Correct me if I'm wrong, but BHP does not = HP ATW
-
A month and a half ahead meaning what? :S That it's been there for that long and not noticed it? Oh and 77.2 HPATW is what in BHP?
