You can insure it on the chassis number no problem, just explain what you are doing... As Rick says, it's a headache to do it all, but if funds won't allow get stuck in. You shouldn't encounter any real problems, just make sure you take maritime insurance, battery pack, oil, water etc etc etc when you plan to collect the car. Alternatively, I can sort it out for you if you get stuck Mark

If the car you import is under 10 years old (date of first reg in Japan) then you need an SVA, if it's over 10years old...mot only. So ideally, you'd import a car registered before feb-march 1998...allowing 6-8 weeks for shipping etc. If you did buy a car that's say 1999...you could...if you really didn't want to pay for the SVA, just garage it till it's over 10 years Also, be careful when you buy from Jap sales, if myself or another importer brings a car over, we in most cases have the car checked out first to make sure all is legit... I'm such a whore

I'm ditching the stock hazard light switch and using a flick switch....a few questions I have The switch I would have thought would have a live feed, 3-4 wires for the indicators to trigger and an earth (for the light on the switch)...flicking it would send the power to the flasher box to trip the lights on and off. Problem is, the switch has several extra wires in there...and simply powering the 3 wires that seem to trigger the lights doesn't work. Any ideas?

I'll add to this... You buy the car, pay for it with the FOB price...you then get the docks sent to you in the post (usually recorded), you need this to release the car. When the car arrives at the docks you have to take the documents with you to release the car plus pay all the charges etc...then you CAN drive the car away aslong as it's insured (can insure on the chassis number) and the chassis number is written clearly on front and rear screens for the police to see if you do anything naughty. Then you have the bits to do like speedo and rear fog, then if it's over 10 years old, an MOT, n

Yeah you say that...I did a job 2 months ago at £350 a day, total take home was approx 4k a month....problem was, they neglected to pay me...then went bust owing me £9500 fuckers. When you graduate mate, I'll be asking you for a loan lol

It's interesting what people earn, when I was 17-20 I used to earn around 14-19k a year as a junior developer....always thought that you should earn your age at the very least. But contracting pays on average £350 a day in the city which is rather nice these days.

I've been a Flash Developer for about 7 years now, currently contracting...that's my main source of income, supported by a pretty busy side business in the form of night-spirit.co.uk

The adjuster (depends on the model of the SSQV, some have no adjuster bolt) is to compress the spring within the bov, this in turn means more or less pressure (depending on making it lose or tight) is needed to open the valve of the SSQV. Tighter will mean that unless on full or high boost the valve won't open, making it lose will have it dumping when very little pressure is detected. A BOV releases the pressure coming back from the closed throttle plate on lift off that's in the system before it hits the turbo...a dump valve vents this pressure/air to the atmosphere creating the sound, in a

Don't forget you can also buy the recirc attachment for SSQV aswell...think it's about £20? I personally love the look people give (especially those driving convertibles when you come up behind them) as the turbo stalls in a big way I'm such a tart...it's all about fun for me.

That video....is on the CT9, running stock boost. But running through a Blitz filter mounted in the front bumper. I'd say HKS SSQV is best for quality, plus it's adjustable so you can get some stall at lower boost and only 'dump' at higher pressures (several DV allow this)...I'd say my favourite in the world though, if I had to have one is the SARD racing valve...like the R2D2 only not crap.

On my old engine...I run no BOV at all at stock boost, on the new engine, I run no BOV at all on a TD05 running 1.4bar...compressor stall makes me sex wee. Sexiness

I run stock discs on the rear with Sard race pads and 275mm grooved discs on the front with Outlaw 4pot calipers and Endless Type RA pads, braided lines throughout and racing brake fluid 5.1....oh and a Cusco BMCS. To be honest it's overkill for the car, the way it's currently set up...as you can imagine, the brakes need to see some work before they heat up so are quite spongy to begin with. Once they're heated up or applied in anger the car does an endo (no ABS either)...but normal application of the slow pedal gives me quite a progressive slow down with good pedal feel and travel pics

I'm starting to feel sorry for this chap Either he's not the sharpest peanut in the turd and hasn't noticed everyone taking the piss, or he's actually taking it on the chin and having a laugh about it...I suspect the later.

Yup indeedy... If you look at the cam belt guard on the 3S-GTE, right there is a nice sticker with 'Yamaha' on it -
Insurance companies are fuckers, Best you can do uncle ben, is to print out the most favourable adverts from autotrader/piston heads and parkers price guide/glasses. They'll see what the car cost you (what it was insured at) and take into account mileage, wear and tear etc...so just saying 'yeah the guys on some forum reckon it's worth 20k' isn't going to get you 20k. If they offer a shit price, you'll need to respond with lots of printed proof of car prices. We had to do the same thing when my wife wrote off her Rover 200si last year, paid 1400 for it, got 700 from the insurance company...mi

Been at the booze again grandson? shocking....tsk I love the 3S GTE engine (coming from an MR2 Turbo as my last monster project) it's not shit you dwarf fisting sausage jockey...how very dare you. Lots of the tuner cars in Japan used to use the legendary 3S lump. I'd never go Nissan...or should I say Datsun. I've sold the seat too, I think. People keep saying they want it, but I can't actually post it or meet anyone with it as I don't have the time so they disappear. Come over and buy it. -

That's a secret...but it was pretty cheap. I have no idea what power it's running, hoping to get it dynoed and mapped soon enough. And if you're referring to the evo M3, I'm not sure! there was little to tell the difference between non and evo M3s. Ecks, it was a drag car in Japan, but here it's a track beast which is more fun...not into drag strips....boring. But SR20DET?? that engine sucks more ringpiece than Michael Barrymore. If I wanted to make the EP stupid special, I'd just midmount a 3S-GTE and do a proper job -
Now I know my taste in bodykits for the EP has come into question recently...but I really like the idea of a carbon GT rear wing like that...might just remove the rear wing anyway as it's far too heavy.
