Well it's safe to say it's about time I made myself a progress thread! I have owned my 98 spec for over 3 years, had my ups and down's with it but kept the faith I live on the outskirts of Co Durham up in the North East. This is my first jap car and I am the first UK owner. First thing I did was fresh dizzy cap rotar arm, spark plugs, leads all the basic replacements timing belt etc schutz underseal and waxoil all the cavity's in the door sills pretty much everywhere so it's rust free everywhere. I am also a massive JAM whore as you will be able to tell lol also everything I buy I like it to be genuine anyways here's the spec so far but will be on going change.. Engine- ct9 turbo running 1 bar JAM actuator front grill relocation filter kit Jperformance front mount intercooler heat wrapped pipes uprated HT leads ported OEM manifold Jperformance Decat grade 7 spark plugs RS*R full system HKS dumpvalve new battery voltage stabliser custom painted rocker cover and strut tower bar SARD ecu 255 fuel pump Handling- new D2 coilovers set up by mx5 specialists RS*R panhard rod OEM rear strut brace grooved discs red pads Wheels- Advan racing 14" light with great acceleration going for some Toyo TR 1's Exterior- Full genuine JAM racing body kit one off custom Fibreglass bonnet mega lightweight factory optional extra ducktail na mirrors rear wiper removed back 3 window tints Interior- rear stripped sparco racing bucket seat Bride passenger seat HKS boost gauge JDM flare TRD gear knob I have a handfull of future plans to make it complete at the minute I need the sideskirts painted, wheels need a refurb it's all hard going on a part time wage haha

Do what you like it's your car I personally feel that buying genuine things or getting ahold of a genuine item is much more satisfying, if you have the choice of painting go for something different create a new buzz

If I was in this position I would look for a forged engine see when one thing goes what other damage has it caused...either way you look at it it's all money be prepared to spend a good amount there is no other way of looking at it on the plus side you can now have a good go at taking an engine apart and learn how it works etc
