The biggest indicator is looking at the side of the belt facing upward so the flat side. Look for dullness in the belt where it may have dried out check if the branding and markings are still on it as these normally come off after a while. Also small cracks, thats the 3 things that normally indicate the condition of a belt.

If it looks in generally good condition then im sure it will be fine. Although you might be better getting someone with a bit more experience to check it also.

Will there be a thread arranging convoys and where they will all meet up? I spoke about it earlier in this thread but dont know what will be more suitable for us. I assume due to how early we will be travelling that traffic on the motorways and stuff shouldn't be an issue? So its just a case of if we head down the M74 then M6 then M5 will we be meeting people along the way or are we best coming to get you guys down the M1 which is a bit more out of the way but in the grand scheme of things cant see the 50 miles making a difference. Any Ideas or suggestions?

There is no set time where IT MUST be done. You could require a timing belt 6 months and 10k miles after just having it replaced it takes into account lots and lots of different factors mate. Its a case of getting a new 1 when its needed its like any servicable item on a car replace it when it needs replaced.

Yes mate. Obviously time can erode them aswell as they are just a rubber compound. Like I said though simply pull the cover off and have a good check for tightness and check it for cracks.

If it was my own car. Id do it by mileage not years. I've dont many an engine rebuild on cars with snapped belts but they always snapped due to mileage rather than age. Best thing to do??? Take off your timing belt cover have a look at the belt and see what kind of condition its in its very easy to tell if 1 needs replaced.

Morning boys thought I'd make a fresh thread to organise this since we havent set up any plans of yet. I assume we can head down the M74 to Penrith. From there we have decisions to make about whether we continue down the M6 and M5 or whether we cut across to the east and go down the M1. I assume that because of the time that we are travelling that traffic wont be an issue so we can probably get away with going straight down the M6 and 5. So I suggest that we could maybe meet around about Bellshill Bothwell area. That way people from the west can head along the M74 and meet there and the guys from the east can head along the mate to the Shawhead junction and down the A725 to the Raith Interchange where we could meet at the Toby Carvery or some sort? If this does not suit anyone then please suggest another option but this was the best I could see for heading down the M74.
