Ep91 kid
Right, got a td04 kit on the way but I'm hearing mixed views on converting the internally gated td04 to external. I understand the way to do this is by welding the stock wastegate shut but I don't really like the sound of that. Is there another way of doing it and if not has anyone experienced any problems with this method? Any help appreciated
Sefton-EP91
It's your best bet to be honest mate, welding the wastegate closed.I remember reading somewhere that you can make a bracket to hold the wastegate closed. I think it was Dean at RW Developments that's made a braket. Hope this helps!
daniel_g
Theres no issue with welding the penny shut, i personally wouldnt trust a flimsy bracket to hold it shut, theres a chance it wouldnt hold properly and youd get a leak.
ChrisLeeBoost
Unless you ever plan on going back internally gated ( you won't go back ) then weld it shut mate.
Maxep
Instead of welding the flap closed, you could always weld the actuator arm in the closed position instead. This way you can probably go back to internal if you decide .
starletezy
welding the actuator arm shut is another good option
adzy
I made a bracket and used a threaded bar to hold mine shut (ct9) it's held firmly closed and there is no movement in the bracket. Gives you the option of you ever need to go back to internally gated, not that I plan to tbh!
Maxep
You will never go back, especially with a screamer haha.

Ep91 kid
My only worrry with welding the penny shut is isn't the exhaust housing cast? I always thought welding cast was frowned upon?
