Pikey009
And after a few days of being a runner and driver, it’s now back up on stands 🤣
SKINY
Typical Toyota lol A friend in Wales rebuilt his celica in a very similar looking place, cant mind the base name Have I mentioned I love the colour
Pikey009
🤣 the colour is last on the list. Think I’ve found the reason for the excess play in the passenger shaft, there’s meant to be a spring circlip located in the grove pictured below. Well there wasn’t one there so after a quick call to Toyota and £2.60, I’ll have it next weekend. If that doesn’t work then I’ll replace the whole lot but to be honest everything else seems fine so it should be a quick fix. Djaniero
Really cool build thread. Great turn around so far😎 As said already the colour looks awesome. Really compliments the black rims. Looking forward to further updates 👍
Pikey009
Cheers mate appreciate it. Should all tie together fairly soon. Picked the drive shaft clips up yesterday, only £2.60 so I thought I’d may as well get genuine parts. They’re an offset design to fill the recess as the shafts are pushed in to the joint. Pikey009
The downpipe is a little fucked. The problem I’ve got is that the full system is a custom one from when it was imported from Japan. The downpipe extends further under the car than the stock and usual aftermarket position. So I’m going to try and repair it, just to get it running and on the road. Then I can save up for a full system unless anyone has got a front pipe for sale?
Pikey009
Another nugget of joy I’m contending with is the aftermarket manifold. The turbo bolts are welded, I presume to stop them coming loose. Im carefully grinding the weld away and then undoing the bolts and nuts. Then I’ll clean everything up and black heat paint the manifold and downpipe. I’ll just fit lock washers with the new nuts and bolts as they will be perfectly fine - NO WELDING! Sam44
she will be a 70 plate before long keep up the great work.
burty
Yeah jase attention to detail and commitment on this one is just as good as your old build
SKINY
My turbo kit doesn't hang low enough or back far enough to connect to the factory position, in the shed for years now lol. A custom exhaust place would be able to sort it if you got another decat no worries
Pikey009
Yeah i've got a really decent looking decat that uses a more stock position. If I can't save the current downpipe then I may look for a local exhaust place as it's just a bit of straight pipe with a slight curve at the end. Pikey009
Decent progress today. Got the drive shaft back together and on the car, nice and tight and worked a treat. Used two new boot clips but the boots themselves were in great condition so I just re-greased and re-assembled. The clip Toyota supplied me was the wrong one and actually for the opposite end to hold the universal joint on. Had a poke around at work and found a bloody shaft clip kit so just measured up the gap and bobs your uncle. Could’ve had it done two weeks ago! Pikey009
Finally separated the aftermarket manifold from the other turbo that it came with. All was going well until the final stud which snapped, typical. I’ll have a go at it tomorrow lunch and I should be able to extract it. Happy with the manifold, looks well made and the welds look really strong. I did a little light porting on runner three as it had a decent lump of weld restricting flow. I’ll smooth it up tomorrow too. Thought i'd keep the parts progress together so have added a picture here of the repaired stud hole that I've now re-threaded. I just need to get hold of some new studs and nuts and then I can rebuild the turbo kit and fit it back in place. Edited February 23, 2021 by Pikey009

Pikey009
Found a nice period wheel, chuffed with the condition for a 1989 wheel. Not sure which centre cap I prefer, thought I’d want the Toyota one but the momo looks nice too and it’s a momo wheel Edited February 18, 2021 by Pikey009
burty
That looks lovely mate I'd keep the momo cap
Dale SR
I would go with the momo, it looks like it belongs with the wheel the toyota badge looks a little out of place.
Sam44
Yeh same from me the momo looks right. Nice wheel.
