Pikey009 Posted January 27, 2021 Author Posted January 27, 2021 And after a few days of being a runner and driver, itās now back up on stands 𤣠Quote
SKINY Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Typical Toyota lol A friend in Wales rebuilt his celica in a very similar looking place, cant mind the base nameĀ Have I mentioned I love the colourĀ Quote
Pikey009 Posted January 30, 2021 Author Posted January 30, 2021 (edited) 𤣠the colour is last on the list. Think Iāve found the reason for the excess play in the passenger shaft, thereās meant to be a spring circlip located in the grove pictured below. Well there wasnāt one there so after a quick call to Toyota and Ā£2.60, Iāll have it next weekend. If that doesnāt work then Iāll replace the whole lot but to be honest everything else seems fine so it should be a quick fix.Ā Edited January 31, 2021 by Pikey009 Quote
Dale SR Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Great work here jase well done, she has come a long way.Ā Quote
Pikey009 Posted January 31, 2021 Author Posted January 31, 2021 Cheers mate. Sheās getting there slowly. powder coated strut brace ready to go on Quote
Djaniero Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Really cool build thread. Great turn around so farš As said already the colour looks awesome. Really compliments the black rims. Ā Looking forward to further updatesĀ šĀ Quote
Pikey009 Posted February 7, 2021 Author Posted February 7, 2021 Cheers mate appreciate it. Should all tie together fairly soon. Picked the drive shaft clips up yesterday, only Ā£2.60 so I thought Iād may as well get genuine parts. Theyāre an offset design to fill the recess as the shafts are pushed in to the joint. Quote
Pikey009 Posted February 8, 2021 Author Posted February 8, 2021 The downpipe is a little fucked. The problem Iāve got is that the full system is a custom one from when it was imported from Japan. The downpipe extends further under the car than the stock and usualĀ aftermarket position. So Iām going to try and repair it, just to get it running and on the road. Then I can save up for a full system unless anyone has got aĀ front pipe for sale?Ā Quote
Pikey009 Posted February 8, 2021 Author Posted February 8, 2021 (edited) Another nugget of joy Iām contending with is the aftermarket manifold. The turbo bolts are welded, I presume to stop them coming loose. Im carefully grinding the weld away and then undoing the bolts and nuts. Then Iāll cleanĀ everything up and black heat paint the manifold and downpipe.Ā Iāll just fit lock washers with the new nuts and boltsĀ as they will be perfectly fine - NO WELDING! Sam44 Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 she will be a 70 plate before long keep up the great work.Ā Quote
burty Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Yeah jase attention to detail and commitment on this one is just as good as your old buildĀ Quote
SKINY Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 My turbo kit doesn't hang low enough or back far enough to connect to the factory position, in the shed for years now lol. A custom exhaust place would be able to sort it if you got another decat no worriesĀ Quote
Pikey009 Posted February 9, 2021 Author Posted February 9, 2021 (edited) Yeah i've got a really decent looking decat that uses a more stock position. If I can't save the current downpipe then I mayĀ look for a local exhaust placeĀ as it's just a bit of straight pipe with a slight curve at the end. Edited February 9, 2021 by Pikey009 Quote
Pikey009 Posted February 10, 2021 Author Posted February 10, 2021 (edited) Decent progress today. Got the drive shaft back together and on the car, nice and tight and worked a treat. Used two new boot clips but the boots themselves were in great condition so I just re-greased and re-assembled. Ā The clip Toyota supplied me was the wrong one and actually for the opposite end to hold the universal joint on. Had a poke around at work and found a bloody shaft clip kit so just measured up the gap and bobs your uncle. Couldāve had it done two weeks ago! Ā Edited February 10, 2021 by Pikey009 Quote
Pikey009 Posted February 10, 2021 Author Posted February 10, 2021 (edited) Finally separated the aftermarket manifold from the other turbo that it came with. All was going well until the final stud which snapped, typical. Iāll have a go at it tomorrow lunch and I should be able to extract it.Ā Ā Happy with the manifold, looks well made and the welds look really strong. I did a little light porting on runner three as it had a decent lump of weld restricting flow. Iāll smooth it up tomorrow too. Thought i'd keep the parts progress together so have added a picture here of the repaired stud hole that I've now re-threaded. I just need to get hold of some new studs and nuts and then I can rebuild the turbo kit and fit it back in place. Edited February 23, 2021 by Pikey009 Quote
Pikey009 Posted February 15, 2021 Author Posted February 15, 2021 Managed to save the downpipe, very happy with how it came outĀ Quote

Pikey009 Posted February 18, 2021 Author Posted February 18, 2021 (edited) Found a nice period wheel, chuffed with the condition for a 1989 wheel. Not sure which centre cap I prefer, thought Iād want the Toyota one but the momo looks nice too and itās a momo wheel Edited February 18, 2021 by Pikey009 Quote
burty Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 That looks lovely mate I'd keep the momo cap Quote
Dale SR Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 I would go with the momo, it looks like it belongs with the wheel the toyota badge looks a little out of place.Ā Quote
Sam44 Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Yeh same from me the momo looks right.Ā Nice wheel.Ā Quote
SKINY Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 I've the exact same wheel in the roofspace lol, it wouldn't look outa place on a bus, its huge lol Quote
Pikey009 Posted February 20, 2021 Author Posted February 20, 2021 Ha ha yeah itās bigger than I thought it would be but smaller that the original which has some wear to itĀ Quote
