Asad
when fitting my rolla mani i noticed how dirty my engine bay really is....whats the best thing/things to use to get all the shit off using the safest method?
briggers
I've heard of people steam cleaning their engine bay. but then i head of someone do it and then their engine was playing up.
ste91
Steam clean, but make sure things like the air filter, battery, etc... are properly covered up.
MattyCD
was gonna steam clean mine last week but its very risky and a disaster waiting to happenI just used a cloth and soapy water and cleaned everything i could reach, i used WD40 to get the oil off the rocker cover etc
Mikey Jay
Autoglym Mechanical Cleaner is what I've started using in mine.Tis a cleaner/degreaser and works well, just need to put a bit of effort in.
Galliano
for visible parts after wiping with a damp sponge (paintwork part of the bay) i used Megs like i would the outside.. and then for metal components (inlet mani for example) i used megs nxt generation metal polish, bloody good job it does too. Pav
If anyone has heard of Gunk products, they are great for engine and parts degreasing. I bought a spray version from halfords a while back, did a fine job on my previous cars engine bay! That Citrus degreaser looks good too Rick, will give that a go on the Glanz as my Gunk is out lol
StarletRick
the halfords stuff, is better than gunk. idle the car till its warm, then turn the engine off.it foams up and covers everything. leave it on for 5 mins, then rince it off with a hose, and just be careful around the plugs. start the car up again till its dry. StarletRick
thats the halfords stuff ^^i can tell just by looking at it.
Asad
yup the 3 in 1.....foams alot which is good just make sure u use a hard bristle brush and work it in everywhere. im planning on doing it again further down the line tho as i may run the risk of damaging something if i do it 3x in a row? p.s you can see how dirty it was by observing the shit ridden water that pools up under the engine. Bluebear
Definitely gonna have to get some of that 3-in-1.Here's what my engine bay looked like when I got the car.Worked on it for ages with WD-40 and shit, got all of the gunk off the paint work and plastics, so they're looking much better, but that rocker cover is a bastard. Oil and white flaky shit (oxide?) all over it. Attacked it with a wire brush, but didn't make any headway.Wouldn't spraying it down mess with any of the electrics at all? Or is it alright if its just a brief spray?
