jason_l
LOL I guess that in the overall scheme of things if my heart valve is getting replaced with a carbon fibre one then its making the buggy several milli grams lighter Now what other body parts can i replace with carbon :harhar: On another note i am fully motivated to get back on with this now!!!! Im actually thinking about nothing else but building the kit car and getting the thing on the road! The last couple of nights i have been lying in bed planning whats going to get done this weekend and working out the plan of attack. I think about it so much that when i do eventually fall asleep i end up dreaming of working on the buggy and driving it. That just makes me want to finish it even more then. The adjustable brackets for the rear wing should be made before the weekend with any luck and i should be able to start mocking up the template for the wing itself.I have been looking at materials again and i have found the perfect material for the rear wing. Its lime green tinted acrylic and looks pretty strange. Im also toying with the idea of using it for the side but im unsure??? I think it will look really good but i don't know how it will look with the graphics done over the top??? So i may just stick to solid green for the sides, although i really like the idea of being able to see right through the car. Will make it look lighter Jason
Steve GT
haha get some more things done jaseyou could be the worlds first fully carbon man in a fully carbon car hahaoh yeah!!! them words are good to hear. its good to know all them negative thoughts about giving up and selling it have well and truly f***ed off lol. 100% motivation from now on dude that sounds good to me :harhar:bring on the weekend i say and bring on the updates haha
jason_l
Looks like i may not be working on it at the weekend now :harhar: Not Happy!!!!!Just got off the phone with James at JDModified and they might be busy with other things this weekend so i may not be able to get to the buggy to even work on it! they are going to call later to confirm but it doesn't look good. Just when i was all motivated and really wanted to crack on with it Obviously not there fault as i know how busy they get and they also need time for other things! They said that im fine working on it next weekend but I am busy as i have a VIP pass to williams F1 test centre and im not turning that down!!!!!I got so upset that i had to chear myself up with some retail therapy so i bought another 2 deep dish Ultralite wheels Already have 2 michelin race slicks in my boot waiting to wrap themselves round the wheels when they arrive. All is not a total loss though, i have small bits i can work on over the weekend so will just have to crack on with these i guess. Its just a pain when i don't actually have the buggy here with me. I have just picked up the parts to make up the adjustable rear wing though on the plus side so may try some mock ups with this over the weekend!Jason
Steve GT
isnt there anything you can do on it even if jd are busy? surely they will let you work on the buggy seen as though youve given them a lot of work on it already lol

jason_l
*** little update ***As i posted before i was going to get up to JDModified and do some work on the buggy today but unfortunately it was not possible as James wasn't about for the day so couldn't get to the buggy :harhar:Instead i went to work and cracked on with a few little bits:The metal for the adjustable spoiler arrived on Friday so i spent a few hours today getting the bits welded up and it looks like a keeper. The spoiler brackets get welded to the top roll bar piece on the back and should be more than enough to support the rear spoiler piece. They are adjustable as well so the angle can be changed to fine tune the downforce supplied to the back. I will be making something similar for the front and will also have a rear lower diffuser added later. Here's the pics.spoiler pieces.inserts welded in and ground off.pretty much there, still needs a little finishing but this will be done before it goes to paint with the rest of the car. Here's a little mock up of what it will look like, will be using a tinted green acrylic so you can see through the spoiler and gives an idea of the level of adustment available. Not going to order the acrlic just yet as don't want it getting damaged before i need it. Im also considering using the same tinted green acrylic for the side of the Demon so you can almost see through the car. Then having the sponsor logo's/decals etched into the panels so they are 'ghosted'.Have also found a 40lt fuel cell that will be ordered up next month. It doesn't come with a locking fuel cap as they expect you to fit it into a car where its secure but i will need to adapt a locking fuel cap onto it. I did buy a locking fuel cap off of a Honda motorbike and it may be able to be adapted to fit the fuel cell. It is even hinged so it doen't come away from the car (as per IVA regs ). Keys even stay in the cap until its locked back in position, which is the other requirment if its not tethered.I have also ordered the other 2 Deep dish Ultralite wheels that are required for the rear of the buggy and they should be here next week with any luck and will be on in 2 weeks time.I won't be able to get to the buggy for 2 weeks now as im going to look around Williams F1 test facility next weekend not turning that down!!!!!I have however now 'booked' the buggy in to have the chassis finished off, seat fixings made and the final rear roll cage parts added. This should be done within the next 2 weeks and then comes the coilover work. As the Demon was never officially booked into the diary then it was just left there as they have alot of other full paying jobs but its booked in so they WILL be working on it!!!!!!As always people comments are greatly recieved and help me to work out parts that need attention so any comments/questions/concerns please ask away.Jason

Aparrently its not just F1 but all williams stuff and now and then the drivers are learking about A couple of years ago i used to work with Maclarens Top F1 Ex Engineer and he got me tickets to Silverstone testing and i got right into Maclarens pits and got to meet Lewis Hamilton and see the car up close. jason_l
*** Update time ***Well i got up to JDModoified yesterday and got a few bits sorted on the car I arrived to find that they have now got the Starlet engine properly sat in its final location and everything is now in and secure. The engine is properly secured and doesn't move at all. They have added some bars across the back to strengthen the buggy and protect in a rear end crash. The old light mounts have been cut off and im going to have some lower light units mounted under the top bar at the back. Already checked the IVA manual and there is no problems having them mounted there The rear subframe is now almost there, just a few minor welding/cleaning up bits and some new brackets for the coilover conversion and its all good. Im also changing the plates that the subframe top mounts bolt to the chassis and re-enforcing them. Then started working on the front and got the batery tray cut off and cleaned up. The radiator is getting mounted at the front so im going to move the battery out of the way and make way for the new nose cone. Also got the old crappy front suspension removed and got the springs onto the new coilovers ready to be fitted back on when i get the rest chopped off and the new bracket welded on.goodbye to the old.......hello to the new and improved.......While i was there i also got a few things measured up that are going to be drawn up and manufactured over the next few months. Including new rear light pods, mounting brackets, stainless exhausts etc. Work is going to slow down over christmas while funds are low and will be back on in full in the new year. I will be spending the next few months getting everything ready for the new year so the updates will keep coming, even if they are small.I also couldn't resist the chance to get all the wheels onto the car and wow what a difference, the pictures don't really show it off to its full as the light was almost gone and i only had a chance to get a few quick snaps but you get the idea.I also measured the width of the car at the front and the rear. Front is 153cm wide and the rear is a massive 185cm wide, PHAT ASS!!!!!!! looks mean as though in the flesh.Comments welcome people.Jason
Steve GT
whooooooooooooooooooah!!!!!!!!!1!what an update cant believe the engine is in looks amazing dudeyou must be so happy with that finially some more progressget saving hard dude really got to get this finished for show time in the summer this things going to be awesome lol

jason_l
Thanks guys It looks like a big update but its not that big to be honest as they have been aligning the engine for some time now. The engine looks right at home in the car though and it lloks like it was designed to have been put in there all along now. There are things that can be done though like making the seat frames, cleaning bits up(including a deep clean to the engine) and getting a few other bits underway so the updates won't stop and i will be cracking on with it.My heart operation looks like its going to be early next year which means i will have ALOT more money to spend on the car as i will be off for 3 monthson full pay Its going to be insane!!!!!!!!!!!!! jason_l
always good to see some updates on this:D we are all very excited about this on here so i couldnt imagine how you must feel. is this going to have a manual gearbox or auto?Manual bit of a pain to sort out but it can be done. Will probably use gear linkage cables from a mr2 as they should be long enough?????
jason_l
*** Lights ***Well as the work will slow ever so slightly over crimbo i decided to work on a few bits. I have paid up for 12 hours of labour but there is nothing that can be done on the buggy without me buying a few more bits.I have decided to start looking at the rear light assemblies and getting as much done on the rear subframe as possible so that it can be finished off and broken down and sent off to paint while i finish the rest of the frame.I never really liked the normal 'Hamburger' style rear lights on the buggy so now these have been removed and binned for some land rover light units. I much prefer these lights and to be honest i think they will look better. Plus i have the extra room now that the buggy has been widened to use them I bought 2 extra stop/tail lights so they will give more effect when braking. This layout shows how im thinking of having the lights. The rear fog and reverse lights will be either side of the number plate which will be slightly lower down than the others.Quickly knocked up a cardboard template to see what the light units will look like and i think it will be ok when on the car, but welcome to oppinions people???Hopefully going to get the steel templates laser cut over the next few weeks along with some other parts i need for the beast. As the engine is sat in its final location now as well im going to start looking at getting the driveshafts made up I will keep the updates coming people as it keeps me motivated to crack on with it, im sorry if it gets a bit stupid adding these small updates every now and then but helps me work out what was done when etc...Jason ;)
jason_l
*** Mini update ****Girlfriend gave me a few hours away from her so i got to go and check a few little bits on the buggy before i was back in my cage They have confirmed that they will get the front end cleaned up this week and the brackets removed so when im up there next saturday i can get the coilovers onto the front and the new brackets welded on ;)While i was up there i also roughly tapped the light template sinto place to see what they will look like on the buggy. I have two options really, either the lights sit above the rear bar or bellow the rear bar. To me they look better sat below (second set of pics) but let me know what you guys think. I still have to sort out placement for the rear fog and reverse ligts which i think will sit below the number plate (still fine for IVA).lights above bar.......lights bellow bar......I will be up there working on the buggy next saturday and if i get time i will get it outside and get some proper decent pics of it any comments welcome people?!?!?Jason
