riko666
There's only so much you can do when you're a one or two man operation to keep your company going in a market as volatile as the vehicle aftermarket preparation field, catering for a car that stopped being sold 10 years prior and which wasn't hugely popular... Bluebear
A true legend, sad to see it go.Is HRF gone as well?
riko666
HRF is LOOOOONG gone, like, since 2004! I think they crashed their Golden car in 2003 too
Idrees
Did they crash it when the bonnet flipped up and bent the roof or something along those lines?
riko666
Correct; its on their website I think - I think it flipped as well as the roof was caved in from what I remember
Bluebear
Are there even any Starlet tuners left in Japan now then?
riko666
Cruise still deals I think, and the 18G kit I sold was from a Starlet specialist, but he's not a fully fledged tunerOther than that, I think its a bit bleak there - if you combine the fact that when they have the cars had to have their "Shaken" test (equivalent of an MOT) at 3 years from new, and the extortionate cost of doing such, even the newest Starlet was at risk of not being renewed in 2002; so a lot came over here as imports from then, and I don't think a lot of people were going to spend too much on a relatively low volume niche hatchback. I think most of the specialised tuners would've died a few short years from then. That JAM and Zep Racing dealt for so long is quite amazing really, as they were only 1-2 men operations, and managing to keep business afloat with such a restricted market must've been far from easy. Even with the racing involvement both manufacturers had (and remember, JAM Racing even had a small bit of televised promotion in one of the Best Motoring videos).
