Wow... A positive response from TheStarletGT! Thanks, much appreciated...

Will try get some engine cleaning fluid stuff during the week.

Now the head is off, I wanna prep and clean it up as much as possible ready for skimming! What do I need to do? Also have alot of metal fragments hanging around and paint flakes (where rocker cover was previously painted) all floating around in the remaining oil.

Do I need to remove the valves from the head? If so how do I do it?

Is there something I can bath the head in to remove the old oil and crap?

re-building an engine is a piece of piss,

just get all the settings/torques and clearances and stick to them ,

when re-building an engine make sure the work area and parts are as clean as an opperating theater!

I wouldn't know Adam from eve tbh... There was a load of oil and White gunk about the place, along with some White crusty stuff and a layer of carbon over the pistons!

Most of it was pretty dry as the engine has been sitting for a while!

Anyone recommend a spring compressor for the valve stems?

by the sounds of it let water in to the oil which isnt to bad, but i would say it would be worth getting the head checked to see its its not warped,

there is some cheep valve spring compressors on ebay, also it might be worth reseating the valves if your changing the valve stem seals
