lukerobz
agreed tbh ive had a 106 gti ive had a 206gti180 and neither have come close to a starlet and i live in wales on country roads every day and the 106 handled rather well but no better than my starlet only diffrence the starlets have power to pull on the straights
rinseep82
There is a very twisty back lane near my house that leads to a big supermarket that is always an attraction for the French tuners they like to hang around there for some reason and when my gt was standard sept for a front mount and shocks and springs I was also hitting fuel cut every now and then there wasn't one 106 vtr vts that could keep up they was near me slightly in the bends and I had shit budget tyres as soon as I started to pull out the bend there was a spec in the mirror

rinseep82
Ahh yea ya right there t sport forgot that there is a few others but there all I could think of top of mi head Japanese are the king of hot hatches
starlet1.3si
Im in the mood for arguing aswell, but cant be arsed to type a long answer out so here goes.If Honda or Toyota wanted to make a small hot hatch like the vts/vtr with say a 1.6 engine in like the saxo then they could, they could also do it in the same price range, as the saxo comes with fuck as stock tbh. Roosy
Saxos are brilliant until you open the door and the door handle falls off along with the door cards then the window motor brakes whilst you sit in the poorly manufactured seats that rock as bad as my nans rocking chair and smell like shit... I learnt to never by a French car because of this.
Turbo Goose
TBH I have bought this saxo and the more I look into it the more things need replacing. so far I've spent over £200 on a car which I thought I could buy and sell on for a quick buck. But in the end its always worth doing the little bits on it as I know I will make more profit after all the little things have been done. I also just changed the cambelt as there was no cambelt history and its got 72k on the clock so best to be on the safe side.Would never change my starlet for anything french, after you've experienced the reliability of an unmolested jap car, you never want to go back. micky boy
I bet the 100ps 4efe JDM N/A starlet would smoke a saxo vts never mind a GT!..And how the fuck anyone can say a stock vts will have a stock gt down a back road!.. A mean yeah the saxo might have a lower sense of gravity and be able to nip in to coners quicker in stock form then the GT but give it 10miles down the road and i bet the saxo is wrapped round a tree!!! because the back end went they are know for it the rear axles are poo and made out of whitby rock!!! Snow
my 106 rallye was the most fun thing on a B road/track ive ever been in, handling wise the startlet is just far to twitchy in standard form as for saxo's there a lot of car for not a lot of money great for cheap thrills but like all things french they rot to pieces main reason i had to part ways with the 106 was it was more rewelded metal than original metal that and i had pregnant woman type cravings for boost, after owning the two the starlet is a much better car but show me a twisty road in a 106 and i canb gurantee ill have more fun than i would in my "v"
micky boy
Theres a reason things are so cheap because they are made from cans of coke theres not one quality part on a saxo atleast a GT come with a momo sterring wheel as standard lol and most of the sensors on the car are made from denso one of the top companies in japan aswell as other top quality parts that are on the car and dont forget the gt is almost 20years old and still gives much bigger cars a run for there money to this day! Lets just face it saxos are shit and were made for wimmin that wanted a bit of a thrill but even the wimmin thought they were shit so sold them on to chavs that thought they were great!! MARC MOSS
Have you looked at a large portion of GT/Glanza owners these days...... 2 words spring to mind....pot and kettle...There is always something faster in this world. VTS's might be crampted to drive etc, but stock for stock or even mildly modded, the saxo will take a Starlet on a backroad. The french are the king of hot hatches....you are gay saying that on a starlet forum fact . but on the saxo forum they would fkin love ya lol
Roosy
In response to the post above I don't think Starlets are the best hatch on the market. But I do think they are the nuts. On the other hand I think saxos are one of the shittest hatches in the market and hate everything about them and the majority of cocky chavs that drive them. The stereo-typical crap french car to go along with the stereo typical chav that we all know and hate around the area you live.
Nanglebadger
guys, when i had only 2 or 3 years under my belt on here i'd have responded to Rubix as you have.how-and-evar, having been a member as long as i have, and having come to know rubix over the past 7 or 8 years, i have learnt that the sexy east coast living mofo is usually right.dont get me wrong. i hate saxos. hate them. i bait them where i can, even in the alfa. but, what rubix has that i dont, is experience of driving a great many different cars, jap and frog.and what i can assure you all of, is that experience trumps opinion.fact.dont turn into starlet owning versions of saxo owners. please, for the love of all thats Holy! read back up this thread, because thats all this is!!!! take out every reference to starlets being great and saxos being shit, swap the words around, and u have posts stright off saxperience! STOP IT!!!! EP drivers are better than that!Phil.
Simon
Will say the same as above i've been an owner of both 3 Glanza's and 2 106 GTI's.The 106's were cheaper to buy and modify up to a point and out cornered the glanza's but as with everything it's down to personal choice and i've come back to Glanza as it's what i know and love.A few pics of the 106:
MARC MOSS
C'mon it's all banter lol any post about a Saxo on a Toyota forum is gonna get ripped isn't it simple.. My gt is as unreliable as fuck and my m3 before wasn't much better.! Id fuck my starlet off tomorrow if I could find another mk3 rs1600i escort like I had 15 years ago...And the we could have the ford argument lol

aaddzz123
This thread is becoming just as funny to read as the one on saxperience . 90% of you are defending saxos lol! Anyone in the right mind would have a starlet over a saxo. Like someone said above about the door handle falling off, then the doorcard and getting into a seat that rocks back and forth... It'd be funny if he were lying but its true lol!I had a 306 d-turbo and to be honest, being a french hatch, it was the same as the rest, handled the same as the rest, looked similar to the rest... It handled well, looked nice. But I had to open the bonnet LITERALLY everyday, parts constantly fell off, the window fell out once and smashed in the door. I lost £1800 on that car when I sold it.... £1800!!! You can buy a nice GT for that. Fucking shocking cars. Best thing about it was the manual fuel pump tuning. a couple of turns and adjusting the actuator, they'd hack 20psi of boost and had mint torque.... Other than that, a money pit!Strange thing is... I'd probably own one again lol!......
Turbo Goose
Man I love this thread now, im only 20 so havent had as much experienece with different cars but my older brothers have had no end of saxos and 106 gtis. Theyve had to replace axles on the gti and one of the saxos was ran into the ground. After looking at all the work they had to do compared to my starlet hasnt needed nearly as much work apart from its seizing brake caliper. my bro now has a 306 gti6 after couple of civic type r's and a scooby and wants to go back to jap.
