A L 3 X
I'm slowly gathering the mods to aim for 1 bar my ct9, now I really am worried about cutting out my bumper as although i love the widemouthed look, i'm a bit OCD and couldnt do with it unless it was smoothed and cut perfectly? So just wondering, is an ARC TMIC suitable to run 1 bar at or would i need an FMIC, and which option is recommended? Asad
fmic would be better, get a good kit tho.....like the wepr/zisco onestarlets dont need massive coolers total overkill imo a small well placed cooler is where its at
mrkhan
ARC TMIC will be fine at 1bar. no messing around with dv's, pipe routes mounting or cutting bumpers.
funny onion
I have an ARC top mount at 0.8 bar (upping to a bar soon) and its perfect, instant boost. Dont need a fmic if your still running the ct9 IMO. I can rag my car like fuck for however long I want, park up and put my hand on the intercooler and it will be stone cold. one of the best mods I've done to the car ( relocating air filter was a close second). Flaminsam
Agree with the arc. Charls car Is fine. Has almost instant boost and keeps super cool. Well worth the money she paid for it.
micky boy
ARC's are worth the money but for the same price you can get a FMIC i know what one id choose the inlet temps on a fmic would be alot cooler then the arc someone on TGTT tested the inlet temp's on a ARC runnig 1bar of boost and they were realy high he said they where that high he couldnt understand how the engine could cope with that much heat!!!...Think it was Tim for TB developments (toyota specialist) that tested the inlet temps ill try and find it. funny onion
Hmm let the debate begin. "you can't up boost without a front mount." inlet temps may be a bit higher but the lag is 100% less. I've never ever had a problem with heat soak etc. makes me laugh how the big opinions come from people have never even tried an arc top mount lol
Amjad
^Interesting!I'd go with FMIC, it's future proof in case you decided to go for a bigger turbo..and they look HENCH lol Edited May 2, 2012 by Amjad

Gainzy
big front mount without a doubt...
funny onion
If you're going for a bigger turbo, go front mount. If you're staying ct9, arc or rx7 top mout. I hate having this debate with people, there are pro's and cons for both. I'll be going fmic when I go td04 but until then my arc is worth it's weight in gold.
mattyD
the only thing i noticed when i changed to my hdi fmic (a massive core) was the change in noise from the turbo there was no change in spool what so everplus you have the added bonus of the looks and if you were ever to upgrade the turbo you wouldn't have to waste time faffing as an fmic you already be in place

A L 3 X
Emptied it now sorry :/Amjad, that's exactly it, an fmic sticking out of a neatly cut bumper looks rude as fuckMy dilemma is a front mount is better in looks, performance and sound, my only worry is cutting the bumper and getting it and my optional lip to look nice without smoothing and tea praying, any tips? Amjad
Here's the thread Mickey was talking about, post #38 http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/showthread.php?74284-something-interesting-and-concerning-about-the-stock-intercooler/page2&highlight=intercoolerTo be honest you probably do need to be careful cutting the bumper but if you mount the core right it's not too bad. I had to get mine sprayed but that's because it had some damage on it anyway. Totally future proof mod, and you mentioned the looks ;)
mattyD
^^ customise your own brackets so the core sits as far back as it can go
Flaminsam
Rule of thumb is for every 1 degree the inlet temp drops you get an extra 1 bhp. Like charl said its up to how you want your car to drive. Quick spool get a arc. For those who say just go front mount, try driving charls advance. Its a completely different animal with that arc. Nothing like the standard tmic. Both have pro's and con's. Some cars in the states that are running silly quater miles don't even run a cooler of any type.
russ78
i run a top mounted rx7 intercooler at 1 bar on a toy tuning ct9 hybrid and i have no problems at present, but i do totally see why a fmic would be better but its just purely the butchering of the front bumper is my one and only reason to not go fmic ! Asad
Any measured temp differences? Cool to the touch means sweet f all...Any one got any figures of how much quicker boost comes on with an arc? Ie 200revs etc?No one has to butcher the bumper ^ using a massive core is pointless get a smaller core and your done Edited May 2, 2012 by Asad

But also you can think at the back of your mind when you are giveing it big licks that its getting enough cold air and isnt trapped under the bonnet getting heated up!Ohh and thanks Amjad i couldnt find the thread! madmax_926
Arc tmic is cool, it's a bit different and I managed to get 190 bhp on one with the oem ct9 , I would love to see how a td04 ran with one that would be interesting
madmax_926
Oh yeah to add when I swapped the arc for a fmic I made 200 so a clear 10 bhp and that was at same boost with everything else the same what I noticed was more of a pull at higher Rpm but obv a lot more lag
A L 3 X
Amjad that red Glanza looks sick, well they all do but it's the nearest to how mine would look except I've got the oem 98 spec lip as well, I think cutting the bumper would be easy it's the splitter that will be hard as it has the cut out section for the plate?
