RossTRD Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 after reading up that i could just mesh the turbo it seems a good idea but which is the better option? Quote
Rob H@RCH Engineering Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 (edited) better option is relocation in imo! Edited March 24, 2013 by Rob H Quote
DevonGT Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I've had both and would say relocation is better and safer. Quote
Rob H@RCH Engineering Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 have you tried and tested? There is 2 main differences relocation- nice clean filtered air going into the engine Mesh- stops bricks getting sucked in but lets dust, grit and other stuff in that then mixes with oil and fuel and turns into grinding paste inside your engine, good for cars that dont get used on public roads much and on drag strips and for some one that likes rebuilding engines. This is my opinion others may not agree. Quote
RossTRD Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 dont think il be meshing it then lol going td04 soon so gonna do everything all at once in a weekend, front mount kit, ebc, manifold and decat etc Quote
Sefton-EP91 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Will meshed turbos have more chatter? I know this sounds weird but I looooovvvveee the sound of chatter lol chatter FTW Quote
pick1 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Will meshed turbos have more chatter? I know this sounds weird but I looooovvvveee the sound of chatter lol chatter FTWIn my opinion of runnin both no not a massive difference but there is a large difference in noise at spool up with mesh in my opinion Quote
Sefton-EP91 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Right ok, I know sound silly but You cannot beat chattering turbos lol Quote
pick1 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Right ok, I know sound silly but You cannot beat chattering turbos lolHay mate I agree always had chatter on all my turbo set ups tried a dump valve once lasted two days then went back to chatter lol Quote
Sefton-EP91 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I had my DV hooked up for a week then went to chatter. It's a much better sound I think! Quote
Jamie1st Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Used mesh from day one on my TD04, year later at 1.4bar the turbo is good, and the engine is also good (just had it to bits to do valve stem seals) Quote
Sefton-EP91 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I might go meshed but you always hear good and bad... :/ Quote
Jamie1st Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I'm just going from personal experience, although mine isn't used as a daily! Quote
Sefton-EP91 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Mine is a daily so maybe stick with relocation Quote
RossTRD Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 mine is used as a daily and il always prefer the sound of a dv Quote

Think of how the piston rings are going to be when theres grinding paste entering the cylinders. Not to mention if any grit gets past the seals in the turbo it will make mince meat of the bearings. Ryan-11 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 get a filter on there, i know id prefer to protect my turbo and engine over a wee bit of extra noise. Quote
Liam_D Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Filters are better in my opinion as said i would rather protect my turbo. Quote
akyakapotter Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I'm going to put a filter on mine soon I think but a decent one costs so much money mesh was a couple quid lol Quote
redz11 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 NOTHING, because im psycho and too lazy to fit my relocation saying that ive run it with nothing for a few months now, 75 miles a day and its fine xD Quote
Ryan-11 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I'm going to put a filter on mine soon I think but a decent one costs so much money mesh was a couple quid lol £10 from ebay, Thats what i use. Quote
AdamB Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Many people used to moan that they lost power from putting a filter on due to restriction, but now days filters are so advanced you barely lose any horsepower, like 1-2hp due to restriction. Its a safe price to pay. Quote
