Patches
Personally i wouldnt buy a forged engine someones cousin had build unless he worked at a company who forge that type of engine all the time. Or if he is well known for his skills and has a good track record. If its just a guy that 'had a go' i would just walk away.My mate tried to forge an sti engine and within weeks it was knocking and everything he put in was fucked and scored all the block. Ended up costing a bomb
Spoon_tuned
I see what your saying mate his cousins works at a tuning garage he did say the name but ive forgot it.

shorty
Anyone with good mechanical understanding and good skills can build an engine with the right tools and enviroment. Any one who wont take the sump off for the sake of a sale is not worth buying off as although the pics show a forged set of pistons they could be attached to a set of chocolate glanza rods. And might be pics of a totaly different engine lol. Sump off or dont buy imo bud.

Spoon_tuned
Right guys i bought the car today i did a compression test and all were just below 150 that was a dry test. I managed to look down the spark plug hole with a torch and could just see the pistons they looked clean. also i can see a few numbers on it. we checked my cousins ep82 and his pistons looked totally different & i noticed the METAL HEAD GASKET...TBH i'm gna take the sump off 2moro and check as i'm unsure if it turns out its not forged then i will either sell whole car or brake it... Spoon_tuned
do standard starlet pistons have numbers on like that?
daniel_g
I dont think so, i have a standard set i can check tomorrow but theres no numbers like that. Pics of the car ? Someone will know of it.
Spoon_tuned
no pics atm dude i will get some but his cousin built it and he's not on forums
AdamB
OEM pistons don't have any numbers on them and they don't have deep valve relief cut outs. I would still pull the sump to check the rods.

Phil
Pauter rods perchance dont see any block notch? Phil
TurboTobz
Not sure they are, design of the rod looks different to pauters unique + shape, but from that pic the block doesn't look notched. I'd say there scat rods looking at the design. Edited June 24, 2013 by TurboTobz
rinseep82
Scat rods and pec roads are the same design however with pec rods the block does not need notching as the are slightly smaller in width they look like pec rods
