EPnick22
so finally rebuilt my engine, done around 500 miles since, mineral oil, many changes, blah blah blah, 8psi boost on a td04, fully forged engine and was coming home last night, hit boost a few times, started hearing loud tapping, pulled over popped the hood, revved it and heard a really loud knock, was 5 miles from home so i crawled it, knocking really loudly but sounds like its coming from the top end?! any suggestions? Phil
Speak to whoever built the engine, have them out to check everything over, and cross your fingers really tight that you are exaggerating the noise and its just your cam gears not tightened right. sounds bad though, feel for ya, its happened to the best of us. jimmymac101
As above mate get the once over from a professional who you trust James
Phil
only other thing i ask is if your not completely alergic to spanners you should/could pop the rocker and sump off to see what you can tell from there, though if you have an engine warranty you might want to check you dont invalidate it by touching anything. RobSR
Didn't you build it yourself? If your not sure what's up with it don't run it and get someone to come and have a look at it..
mikey4410
he did build it himself
Socks
Always said this... Forged Engines are all well and good if built yourself...But if it goes wrong, its YOUR problem.... Risking £1500 worth of parts.... If you go to a specialist and it goes wrong, NOT your problem... Take it back... Besides that, hope you get it sorted mate and I hope its something simple! StarletSr?
If the cam gears not tightened thats ment to make a noise and it shouldnt cause damage but if not yea doesnt sound good!
RobSR
If you go to a specialist and it goes wrong, NOT your problem... Take it back... Well it still can be..tbh if forgies go wrong no one wants to take blame. Builder will blame the mapper, mapper will blame the builder etc etc.

EPnick22
yeah i built it myself, but I made sure it was build properly, made sure everything was machined to the specified clearances for the new bits, everything was tightened to the correct torque setting, im getting the rocker off in a minute to have a look, just feel so annoyed ! EPnick22
my dad used to build race engines so he helped me through all the right steps so it was all built properly but im just on the verge of giving up, i need my car for workm buying a cheap run about from my mate later hopefully
EPnick22
got the rocker off, all the cams are tight and looking healthy, cambelt was a little slack so re-tightened it but nothings changed, started it and sounded absolutely fucking awful
Phil
got the rocker off, all the cams are tight and looking healthy, cambelt was a little slack so re-tightened it but nothings changed, started it and sounded absolutely fucking awful boom, is there any 4efte engine build specialists on here, Killamats/Sacha/racetech might be a good person to ask for any common bottom end errors? i know that there is definitely little quirks with parts that look insignificant, you watched Chris's (from Greece) 4efte build up video on youtube? AdamB
The most common problem with losing bottom end bearings is oil pressure/oil feed related, 9/10 this is the reason. If you haven't got an oil pressure gauge, get one!
RobSR
Take the sump of and have a look at the mains/journals etc... Could be small ends also if you think its coming from nearer the top of the engine tho.

EPnick22
cheers everyone, when i have some time when Im not at work ill rip the engine out and do a full rebuild, (hoping it is just big end shells) when i did my first oil change the magnetic sump plug was pretty furry with specs of metal, maybe the big ends got scored up from bits of metal?
