AdamB
cheers everyone, when i have some time when Im not at work ill rip the engine out and do a full rebuild, (hoping it is just big end shells) when i did my first oil change the magnetic sump plug was pretty furry with specs of metal, maybe the big ends got scored up from bits of metal? That'll be the piston rings mate bedding in, try sticking a larger magnet in the bottom of the sump, speaker/sub magnet will do the trick Edited October 14, 2013 by AdamB
EPnick22
my mate who builds engines privately for a few people reckons that shouldnt ever happen? once its stripped Im gunna send the block off or find somewhere local to have it properly flushed out
AdamB
What shouldn't happen? Metal filing build up?
EPnick22
yeah apparently thats bad
shorty
Will always get a build up of shite on the first few oil changes of a new build dude.
AdamB
lol what a load of shit. Of course your going to get metal particles its due to friction. Your mate obviously runs his engines in on synthetic oil!
shorty
Or bores the cylinder to big!
mikey4410
loving the speaker magnet trick.such a great bit of advice !!
AdamB
loving the speaker magnet trick.such a great bit of advice !! I find that the magnetic sump plugs are too small of a surface area to collect everything, dropping the sump and cleaning the magnet after a few hundred miles is also a wise idea
shorty
I wouldnt trust having a speaker magnet in my sump incase it dislodged some how and hit the crank. Slim chance i know but thats how starlet ownership luck runs lol

daniel_g
Thought you ment having it outside the sump at first, wouldnt have one inside it tbh.
TurboTobz
Sumps are for oil not subs and stuff, that sounds seriously dangerous Edited October 15, 2013 by TurboTobz
EPnick22
might give it some bass
AdamB
A magnet won't go on the outside as Aluminium isn't magnetic it would have to go inside, get it welded if your that bothered
daniel_g
Cant see anyone doing it anyway. The sumps are steel.A magnet won't go on the outside as Aluminium isn't magnetic it would have to go inside, get it welded if your that bothered
H_D
I would definatley go for a bigger magnet in the sump and would insure its fitted secureley but each to their own.
AdamB
Cant see anyone doing it anyway. The sumps are steel.Thought they were alloy, my bad. I'll be doing it anyway, may seem excessive but would rather overkill than have piston rings floating round my oil and damaging seals etc.Besides you get magnets in the gearbox but don't see people complaining about that Edited October 16, 2013 by AdamB
RobSR
^ very true and they aint exactly small like a magnetic sump plug lol
