Ollieh17 Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 £25 in 18.8 litres Yeh ill check that too mate Quote
Ollieh17 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 noticed this morning how rich it smelt..thought it was because it was cold. Drove to work and still smelt rich even when warmed up so gonna replace the lambda Quote
Zeldoz Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Remember the decat will make it run richer mate! Quote
Ollieh17 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Surely a decat shouldn't alter the fuel mixture that much? The lambda is before the decat so surely the readings wouldn't be that different than if there was a cat? I understand it would smell slightly richer but it seems a bit extreme. Definitely leaning towards lambda Quote
Dickydan Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 (edited) Na 280 to full tank 3 clicks with mixed kinda driving £50 odd full tank Self made decat ;) Hks airfilterThats it lolOh and trackings slightly out Edited November 7, 2013 by Dickydan Quote

Definitely leaning towards lambdaNot too sure on Glanza's as my knowledge is limited on the subject but this is what I'm lead to believe. A lot of cars take a reading before and after the cat to determine the fuel input from the exhaust gases. When you run a decat it alters the cars lamba reading which causes the car to run richer which is better than running leaner. Leading to a higher fuel consumption. Quote
Ollieh17 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 (edited) I only have the lambda "pre cat" then bunged afterwards...was told the second one wasn't needed. On a glanza isn't the second lambda just a cat temperature sensor? Edited November 7, 2013 by Ollieh17 Quote
Zeldoz Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Your correct Ollie, the second isn't essential. I only have the lamba. But since decating i can smell my pounds when im at a standstil! For the sake of £25 just swap out the lamba mate Quote
Jamie1st Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 My 535i BMW does like 18mpg being a fanny! My Glanza seems awesome on fuel haha Quote
keirz Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I read the title thinking bloody hell that's good! Quote
Ollieh17 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Driving economically surely it can do better than that though?? Quote
keirz Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I think it takes having a real heavy drinker to appreciate how good starlets are on fuel. When I had my glanza I felt there was times it was worse on fuel than other times. I would do all the basics like checking tyre pressure, alignment and get fueling checked, but I would not be too concerned.3.5 v6 with a slow commute means I see about 15mpg, but I knew what I was getting my self in for! Quote
Broony Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 The best way is to do it by weight as the fuels volume changes with temperature. Best off filling up when it cold ;) Quote
Ollieh17 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Yeh i get that there are cars worse on fuel,.. But thats not really my point, what im trying to say/ask is that 26.1mpg is bad for a glanza driving gently. Id expect 3.5 v6 and big bmws extra to be bad on fuel. Not a lightweight 1.3 driving gently!! Quote
daniel_g Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Id say getting 26mpg out of a modified turbo starlet is quite good. Bearing in mind its an old car now and its very easy to come on boost on a CT9. Ive heard people say that when on TD04 etc fuel eco was better for town driving because you arent creeping into boost all the time. Quote
Nick85 Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 On another not my mates 10plate 1.6 corsa vxr is only doing about 32mpg that's a mix of traffic/quick and slow driving. That's on a 14 mile commute each way to work and back. So I don't think 26mpg is that bad for an old car Quote
Ollieh17 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 I expected at least low 30s driving calm tbf!! See if a new lambda makes any difference...used to get 38 mpg out of my ignia sport gunning it everywhere Quote
Addymk2 Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Personally I'd jack the back end up quick time and see how free the rear wheels are Quote
Ollieh17 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Yeh ill do that at the weekend... I know i need rear brake pads and disks!! And the handbrake barely works Quote
Ryan_EP82 GT Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 (edited) Personally I'd jack the back end up quick time and see how free the rear wheels are I second that. Check the rear calipers mine my left one got a bit sticky and was braking constantly, definately didnt help my mpg. Lol.. Everyone says it smelt of petrol big time after i removed the cat but am i the only one who loved the smell?? lol Edited November 7, 2013 by Ryan_EP82 GT Quote
Ollieh17 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 I like the smell of petrol out a pump, but out a car is not so nice Quote
