Whos sold up and got an evo?

Recommended Posts

My Brother-in-law had a Twin Turbo Supra for a couple of years, and the running costs for that were sky high! I'd imagine an Evo would be the same. In the end he got rid of it and now has something more manageable like an Altezza.

I've owned 2 evos now and still return back to the starlet fold.

Oil changes are needed every 5-9k, AYC can an will break on a GSR and it's £400 for a recon pump plus fitting and you need MUT to bleed it.

Brakes are not cheap as they are brembo.

I just sold my Mak and I'd have another tomorrow BUT unless you have a well paid job you won't be able to run one as a daily.

lol @ akyakapotter......damn right man....some of these posts have really pissed on my chips lol.

I would only be using the evo as a weekend car, and the odd day during the week, but I don't want a car that I'm reluctant to drive because I'm thinking about how much cash its costing me to run.

Plan B maybe a better idea.................get another ek9 or vti and turbo that.

Just a lil bored with my GT at the moment.

Sorry but I.must disagree I've owned 2 evo's (a V GSR and a Mak), an s14a, an R32GTR, an ST205 Gt4, and a classic impreza wrx (I am 30 this year and indecisive, not wanting to sound like showing off lol). But out of them all the EVO is easiest to tune and reliable.

The others cost too much to extract power out of, and the skyline is fragile.and mega bucks to run. Mate of mine had a GTO and due to its weight couldn't keep up with my EVO.

There nobody saying EVOs arent good cars, i love them, used to work on a fair few and a couple of mates have them, its just personally i'd chose something else, like a Chaser maybe :)

I can't give a direct comparison as I sold my Starlet back in 2007 but Evo's are alot more expensive!

I had a ST205 GT4 before I got my first Evo (6 GSR) and it was roughly the same fuel costs (Evo was standard, GT4 around 320bhp).

I got rid of the 6 because it was rotten, I would say 75% of all Evo's are rotten underneath, its the biggest thing to look out for on them.

Then had a STI Type RA, didn't like the Scooby so went to find an unrusty Evo and now have a near as makes no difference 400bhp Evo 4, this is expensive on fuel!

17mpg if I don't poke the throttle 8)

I've just done the discs and pads allround with Godspeed grooved discs and kevlar pads, £310 all in so not too bad. A specialist I go to will do a 45k mile service for £450 which is very reasonable.

Sounds about right, although my Mak was getting 33mpg on motorway and averaging around 20-22 around town @370ish hp (smaller compressor on the TME).

You got Brembos on yours? As I don't recall brakes ever being that cheap lol.

I was in the same boat as you the faff was an awesome car, but the Evo was a different league to be fair.

My 6 only had a different exhaust and was getting around 25mpg with mixed driving.

The 4 does about 17mpg if im gentle with it, its running an 80 series turbo off a 9, the 750cc injectors probably don't help with fuel efficiency lol!

Yeah my 4 has Brembo's allround, Godspeed currently have them on offer.

A faff feels heavy (which it is) and the gearing is all wrong on one too imho, the Evo makes far better use of its gear ratio's.

Ah ha yeah those 750cc would do it lol I was on stock Mak turbo and injectors. Agreed the faff felt like it was suited to cruising more than point and squirt.
