_shaun_
Well to cut it short the stock glanza gearbox just grates on me. First and second are over in a second and when playing with bigger cars you simply run out of gears above 150 or so and the other guy just pulls ahead. Having had a look around I understand the hrf ep82 ran a 5th gear from a diesel yaris giving it a top speed of 185mph. Just wondering if anyone can confirm what one this would be and how hard it would be todo. Or is there any gearbox better to us. I generally play around on country roads and coming off corners on to Long straights I get half way along and am bashing the limiter in 5th. Obviously there's the option to get a bespoke gear set made up but I couldn't jusitfy the cost. Just looking to see what other options there isCheers shaun
5e colin
fair and simple buy a yaris d4d box and fit the internals in a c52/56 box with an aftermarket lsd these are long gears car will do 186mph at 7200rpm and u need 250bhp minimum to make it your wile under 250 stick to oem turbo box
_shaun_
The cars currently running just under 300bhp due to a wastegate issue but should be well above 350 when complete. It's got the stock box with a trd LSD in it atm. Gearboxes are something I've never touched before. I take it it would be a specialist to transplant the d4d internals into the c52 casing?. 5e colin
no if your mechanicaly minded you can do it urselve shaun just a slow progress and a little play with the bearings its simple really easier then engine rebuild in my eyes
_shaun_
The d4d box would be a c53 Found in the 1.4 yaris and corollas?
5e colin
yes and stay away fron gen1 ( black cap ) box go for the all alu cap box !!!!
daniel_g
If youre just doing 5th the it can be done without even taking the box out the car. Am defo gonna be doing it on the 4paw, topping out at 135 is gonna be gay.Speak to Shorty, i think he had all the Toyota part numbers looked out for the d4d 5th gear conversion. _shaun_
See just doing 5th would be easier but can't decide if its worth going the whole shabang. Sounds dumb but is there any downfall to having long gears?
5e colin
d4d is 22oorpm at 100kph 5th gear swap is 2600rpm at 100kph so a very big yes its worth al the hassle
_shaun_
And just changing out the 5th would increase the top speed to 180mph aswell?
daniel_g
Aye it should do something like that in theory, but any cunt who does that in a starlet has baws of steel !! Haha, i took my old GT to around 140 over the Clackmannan Bridge and it was ehh, quite scary, life flashing before me :/
richardc9052
You can do 150+ mph using a c154 and a p+p ecu with 8500rpm limit lol
5e colin
no it will be more like 170 !!! but the d4d box will be round 185/190 ish at 7200 you will need big bhp to get there and bals of steel ha ha
_shaun_
To be fair I was much the same but the more I've been driving it I've found myself bashing off the limiter in 5th on my favourite stretch of road. I doubt I'd take it to 180 but kinda feel defeated when someone overtakes you purely because you don't have any gears left ha. I was chatting away to someone about people tuning there cars to break the 200mph barrier which would be a laugh in he starlet ha but aye would take billy big balls and a few bottles of nos ha. 5e colin
You can do 150+ mph using a c154 and a p+p ecu with 8500rpm limit lol i have never seen a p&p with a 8500 rpm limit !!! they are all 7800/8000 richard
richardc9052
Colin some p+p don't have any rev limit. I think jack has a jam and he hasn't hit a rev limit yet.. Threw a bearing by accidentally revving it to 8800rpm while beating a porsche
richardc9052
And sham (Bimoto) has a mines ecu with no rev limit, I've seen him do 115mph in 3rd and personally been on the car at 150mph (using gps obviously lol) Doesn't feel fun in a boxy
daniel_g
Shaun you must be doing some speed hitting the limiter in 5th ya nutter !! Haha.Whats the rev limit on your ECU, gonna get it raised when it goes back to P.HQ ?
_shaun_
From memory am sure its 7500 ATM. Aye it fair shifts but am to scared to look down at the speedo to see the speed ha. When its back up and running ill bang a wee dash cam in
Gilly
From memory am sure its 7500 ATM. Aye it fair shifts but am to scared to look down at the speedo to see the speed ha. When its back up and running ill bang a wee dash cam in you will see over 150 on the clocks at the rev limiter, I've seen 145 just approaching red-line but i have never had a GPS on it. shorty
As above the yaris box is the way forward. But i cant remeber the part numbers of the top of my head. Im on hols atm. rwdrev
what would the rebuilt for this need tool wise? pullers? press? any shimming up to do? also do you take the gears off the d4d and put onto the starlet box, or do you basically swap the internals (shafts and the whole shebang) from d4d into the starlet casing?
5e colin
complete internals u swap over ^^^^^^ just have to play with bearing size a bit and 1s your there see if an lsd is available :)
rwdrev
when you say play with bearings, i take it you use a miss match of bearings from both boxes? or are new bearing sizes needed?
5e colin
depends wich box year you get there is 2 sizes as far as i know but usually you can take 1 out of the other and swap or just leave bearings in casings then there is no problem
