fremyjay
Right guy's im very close to breaking my project as im having problems and cant seem to find out what it is, Brought a gt engine to go in my ep91, fitted it all and she turns over but wont fire, she has fuel and spark, timing is correct and so is ignition timing, have checked all the earths and they seem fine. Today went to try and jump start her and smoke started pouring out of the alternator, all hooked up correctly so no issues there, sick and tired of trying to find this issue, if i cant sort it out im breaking her for parts and moving on but after the time, money and effort ive put in so far im desperate to get her running, anyone have any ideas whatsoever
Socks
Is there fuel in it? more importantly, is there fresh fuel in it...?
fremyjay
Filled her up today with fuel as i thought it may be the issue but still nothing
Ollieh17
you tried it with a different alternator in?
fremyjay
No as its only started smoking today, surely that wouldn't stop it from turning over as battery was fully charged when i was trying to fire her up??
Ollieh17
No as its only started smoking today, surely that wouldn't stop it from turning over as battery was fully charged when i was trying to fire her up?? fair enough...is this with the standard ecu?
fremyjay
Yeah standard ecu bud
Ollieh17
id be tempted to stick a different alternator in it and jump it just to rule that out tbh
fremyjay
yeah i will be changing the alternator, just dont want too spend much more if im going to end up breaking her
Ollieh17
yeah i will be changing the alternator, just dont want too spend much more if im going to end up breaking her sure it will be something little mate always is! As much as i want a lot of your parts, don't break it
Ollieh17
how have you checked for spark and fuel? Compression fine on the engine?
fremyjay
Ive tried everything atm mate and just getting fed up, could break her for £4k and buy another one thats running. Im going to try alternator and new leads and plugs then im going to call it a day as i need a car as my other is going soonspark and fuel is fine bud, and compression is fine aswell
funny onion
what fuel pressure do you have when it's cranking over? are you sure it has good compression? have you checked the ecu for codes? does it make a difference if you open the throttle while it's cranking?
daniel_g
Have you put the starter and alternator straps on the wrong way, ie each other ?
fremyjay
I have standard fuel pressure regulator so cant check that at the moment, yeah compression was fine and equal across all cylinders when checked and doesn't make any difference with throttle open =/Have you put the starter and alternator straps on the wrong way, ie each other ?I could well have but would it still crank if these were wrong way around?
daniel_g
Hmmm not sure. Worth a check anyway, everything else seems spot on.
fremyjay
yeah i will take a look, leads were second hand off here so will be trying different ones to be 100%, i reckon its the wiring myself as it was all hacked when i got the shell but looked through it all and it seems fine
Jhandy
Just out of curiosity how long do you turn it over for. Because one morning i went out to go to work and my gt wouldn't start. It turned over everything then with about 30/40 secs of constant turning over it started. I then later found out that the coolant temp sensor had broke. When it got warm it was fine. Worth a check
toyotag2014
have you treid servicing it i.e the fuel filter might be fooked and did you change the fuel pump when you did the conversion and if so are you sure the gt fuel pump is working properly dude ?
fremyjay
Will check coolant sensor tomorrow, fitted a walbro bud so not that, fuel filter is after the fuel rail though isn't it?? So would that make a difference
MARC MOSS
It will be something simple man don't give up!My alternator burnt out for no reason at all once and filled the car with smoke lol
5e colin
is the coil earthed ???
fremyjay
Its just a pain I've built it all up and not working, so going to have to strip the loom and and try once more, Colin coils working fine so I'm stuck at what it is
Aamir
Try a standard fuel pump and see if that helps. I had the same problem in the past Aamir
fremyjay
What was the issue aamir, similar to mine?? As its pumping fuel and chambers are getting fuel into them
