I have noticed some

Adverts on sites saying the car taxed etc

How

Ever from

The 1st of October any car sold will not have the remaining tax transferred over to the new owner.

The new owner has to

Re tax the car them selfs.

If u don't then

U will be driving an untaxed car and more

Then likely to be pulled and car seized as it will also invalidate your insurance

Which is a load of bollox

They made it difficult for people to buy/sell cars. Not everyone has a smartphone or access to Internet to tax it before they drive off..

If I remember rightly, you have a week from buying the car to tax it and you can still do it at the post office. Still a rip as the gov gets tax for the same car twice in the month it's sold, though.

No. New owner has to tax it straight away, so the car can effectively be taxed twice for the same month. I'm sure the police will be lenient if it is the day of purchase though.

How can the new owner tax straight away? When it isnt even in there name.

" when you buu the car you drive away with the tax remaining. As soon as that log book comes through to the new owner you get refunded your owed tax money and the new owner then goes on to tax it. So the tax is valid to the new owner until the log book states it has has a keeper change" .

I'm sure the yellow slip or green can't remember the colour but that one now entitles you to tax it right away online or at a post office.

This. I had to tax my starlet 2 days after buying it in July, used the V5C/2 to do it.

My misses has just brought a new car today and we have had to tax it before we have even brought it and the tax starts at the start of this month so we have missed out on a whole month :(
