mart1
I'm on the look out for a good starlet GT or v auto, there is not many about to choose from and all seem to be very high miles, my question is if looked after standard would it be safe to get something that's done around 90,000 plus miles? FrozenJakalope
Granted not auto, or turbo for that matter, but I'm pushing 130k with no mechanical issues at all. I think they'll more or less go forever with proper servicing and maintenance.
Rob H@RCH Engineering
On the glanzas and GT you will prob fined most of the milage is in Ks not miles so will have less than you think on them, my n/a engine was getting close to 160k with no problems
daniel_g
Plus a lot of them dont have the original engine in them, replacement engine with less miles or a forged one or a rebuilt standard. The mileage the car shows doesnt really mean a lot, most be be very clean being jap imports regardless. mart1
I am interested in a GT auto standard engine know mods on it just exhaust & wheels from what I can see from pics 90000 miles looks genuine Auto £1800 what do you thing? Is it worth a look at?
funny onion
Go see it, have a good look over it for the obvious stuff, an engine that's been serviced on the dot all it's life could go bang at any time, likewise and engine that's been given death all it's life could last forever, luck of the draw i think dip the oil and have a look what colour/consistency it is. Can usually tell how well someone has looked after an engine judging by the state of the oil that's in it and the state of the engine bay in general...
daniel_g
Generally with autos the engines tend to have an easier life, with not reving to the redline etc.90k could be fine, but all depends if its been serviced often and maintained correctly.Worth a look, just take a compression tester with you will give you an idea on its health. FMuscle
My uncle had a Tercel back in Canada, I can't remember which, but it was 4E or 5E. He sold it with over 400,000km on the clock, only because the body wouldn't go through another salty winter. The buyer fixed the body and kept driving it for a year or two before we stopped hearing from him.
